On September 4, Jupiter will station retrograde at 15°35' Taurus, at which time it will move backwards through the sign of the Bull until it stations direct on December 30 at 5°35' Taurus.
Retrograde cycles are about reflection, and every time the Greater Fortune is in reverse motion it prompts us to revisit our feelings about prosperity, abundance, growth and success. Since Jupiter also rules belief systems and higher knowledge, it also encourages us to to review our philosophical, political and religions convictions.
During this period, should you find that you're no longer aligned with any of them, this is the time to discover your personal truth so you can replace them with beliefs that are meaningful to you.
Since Jupiter's placement in Taurus puts an emphasis on material prosperity, most of you will spend a good portion of this cycle reflecting on the economy, reexamining your monetary resources and reevaluating the health of the financial institutions that hold your investments. Should any of your assessments make you feel insecure, this is the time to research the actions you can take to restore your confidence.
The Significance of the Retrograde Degrees
Although Jupiter's retrograde cycle is a common annual occurrence, this cycle's stationary degrees (retrograde at 15° and direct at 5°) are noteworthy because one is an Avatar degree and the second one is a triggering degree.
In astrology, 15° of a fixed sign (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) is a significant degree because it falls midway between an equinox and a solstice. This is a critical degree that in an individual's chart often coincides with a special gift or talent and is known as the Avatar degree.
In this case, it's a transiting station point, which suggests that this retrograde cycle will be about focusing on the issues that are paramount to the Jupiter in Taurus cycle.
On a personal level, this places a greater emphasis on your finances (earning, saving and spending money), your possessions (something you need to buy or perhaps it's time to trim the fat and declutter), and your values (who and what means the most to you).
On a collective level, it places a greater emphasis on inflation/cost of living and the retail industry, as well as the border crisis that has some big city mayors up in arms because they lack the financial resources (Taurus) to provide for all of the foreign migrants (Jupiter). Likewise, Jupiter (philanthropy) in Taurus (money) is likely to bring more attention to the allocation of economic resources for foreign aid and domestic emergency relief.
When Jupiter stations direct on December 30, it will do so at 5° Taurus. This station will trigger the Taurus lunar eclipse that will have occurred earlier at the same degree on October 28 at the exact same degree. I will go into more detail about this event when we get closer to it.
