FOR ARTISTS
2020 People|Politics|Planet
Reactions to our Current, Common Situation
October 2 - November 30, 2020
CALL FOR ARTISTS
Deadline: Friday September 18
In a nation divided by politics, race and income, we’ve been watching from inside our homes and studios what seems like the world on fire. Entire continents and ecosystems are threatened by cascading forces of climate change, and people the world over cry out at injustice, marching in the streets and demanding to be heard. Democracy feels threatened, and the promise of America has never reached some of us at all. A global pandemic continues to sweep the planet, leaving none of us immune or untouched.

What have you been thinking? What do you want to say now, when the world is starved for connection, and yet, we are tearing each other and our planet apart? All reactions are acceptable; some wish to make bold statements with their art, others wish to create a zen escape. Still others are motivated to be vulnerable in spite of their anger or frustration. Now is a time for listening, to all kinds of voices. What do you have to say?

This curated exhibit will be installed in empty retail space. Currently, we are planning to use 23 Jesup Road, although we will not be able to finalize that until late August. If that space becomes unavailable, we will be offered alternative downtown Westport space.

To apply, send by email up to 3 images (3 artworks, one image each) for consideration for inclusion in the exhibit. Any medium including digital and 3-D is welcome, subject to on site technical constraints. Work does not need to be for sale. If you are a performing artist of any kind, please reach out to us, as we may be able to include you in the show or events surrounding it. Email images to 2020PPPWestport@gmail.com by September 18.
  • Label your images with your name and image title in this format: First Initial, Last Name_Title.
    • Please also include medium and size(inclusive of any framing.)
    • You may also include a short (no more than 200 words) artist statement about any or all of
    the works you are submitting.
  • Submit statements as a Word doc, titled First Initial, Last Name_Title(orALL)/Statement
  • Delivery: Work will need to be delivered to the pop up location, and picked up promptly when the show comes down. Dates and details will be finalized with accepted artists. We cannot be responsible for all of the artwork, although we will take our best care. Artists should insure their own work as they feel is appropriate.
  • The Exhibit: We will create an online virtual exhibit, so that if Covid-19 does not allow for gallery viewing, the work can still be seen. Performance pieces will be viewable on our site 2020pppWestport.com and on YouTube. Details will follow.
  • Promotion: If your work is selected, the artist gives the producers of 2020: People, Politics, Planet the rights to use their image(s) for promotion and marketing.
  • Accepted artists will be notified by email by September 25.

This exhibit is not for profit and is sponsored by The Drew Friedman Community Arts Center, The Artists Collective of Westport,
    and WIN Properties.
