WELCOME NEW MEMBERS

Lucy Krupenye, an award winning sculptor, creates wall hanging assemblages out of found objects such as stone, wood, metal and bone. Her sculptures, which range in height from less than 1 foot to over 6 feet high, are organic and Zen in feeling. Although some of them are whimsical, most frequently Lucy searches for harmony among the diverse elements. Her sculptures are often her personal reflections and meditations, but they can also represent the physical reflections and counterparts that exist in nature, life and our world. Lucy has exhibited extensively in galleries and museums in the Northeast and New York City and her work is in collections in the U.S. and Europe. WEBSITE

CAREFULLY WORDED DEFINITION OF "MUSEUM" ESCHEWS NEUTRALITY

A near-unanimous vote by members of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) has officially replaced its standing definition of a “museum” with a more contemporary one. The new definition introduces terms like “accessibility,” “inclusivity,” “diversity,” and “community,” marking a more horizontal and democratic conception of the modern museum. ICOM’s definition of a museum was last updated in 2007 during General Assembly conference proceedings in Vienna. But since 1974, modifications to ICOM’s definition have been relatively minor and piecemeal. Read the full new definition here:
