| | You can hear our Celebrating Indigenous People's Day "Spotlight on Arts & Culture" broadcast as a podcast here. Find out what indigenous traditions, stories and practices are still alive. What can we learn from native cultures’ sense of time and of the land? You will hear about the work of the Institute for Native American Studies, and about the specific cultural practices of the Schaghticoke and Golden Hill Paugussett Tribal Nations, as well as the decade-long archeological dig and research on the site of the last battle of The Pequot War in Southport - and how cultural institutions can help relate native cultures to the general public today.

| | Trace Burroughs has a new music site, featuring over 70 original song demos in different genres and 100+ lyrics to songs. The genre's are rock, adult contemporary/blue, modern country and pop. He can write in most genres and takes commissions. As a performer, Trace is primarily a singer and has played at dozens of venues in Fairfield County. He got his start as a drummer in popular local bands and was interviewed by David Frost for breaking Guinness Book Drum Soloing Marathon records. Website

| | Eric Chiang has been commissioned to produce a mural in downtown Westport. Westport's First Selectman Jim Marpe will be unveiling the murals Saturday, October 16 at 1PM as part of the Westoberfest event. The mural depicts an imaginary world in the early days of Westport, the European traders coming to transact with the indigenous tribes, followed by the English colonists, who built, towns, churches, and farms. Over the bridge, the future awaits. |
| | Heidi Lewis Coleman is featured in Dreamscapes at the Ridgefield Library. The Dreamscape series reflects an exploration of imaginary landscapes inspired by ancient lands of mythology and cultural lore, whether historical, fictional, or fantastical. The shapes she paints and combines in her artwork are organic, thus referring to all forms of nature.The exhibit is on view through November 21.

| | Adair Heitmann will be an event speaker at PechaKucha Night Bridgeport Vol #12 Reinvention and Discovery on Sunday, November 14, 2021, 6pm-8:30pm (doors open at 5pm) at the Bijou Theatre in Bridgeport. This PechaKucha is the final event of the Bridgeport Art Trail. Storytellers will share creative personal stories with 20 images that remain on the screen for 20 seconds each. Adair will also showcase three of her clay monoprints in the Positivity Celebration art exhibition - Lighthouse View, Web of the Sun, and River Road. | | Jana Ireijo will be one of the artists unveiling a mural at Westoberfest on Saturday, October 16 at 1pm. Her statement: "With the construction of the I-95 in the 1950's connecting it to the city, Westport became a “suburban town.” My mural invites the viewer to walk down memory lane and the vibrant, eclectic history of Main Street. We see that some things have never changed: traffic, stunning scenery, and deer! From cultural institutions, to iconic stores, and gathering places, it is the heart of our town." |

| | Trish Wend's Eastern Obsessions was selected as one of 100 runners-up in Southwest Art Magazine's 2021 Artistic Excellence Competition. The magazine will publish winning entries in their January/February 2022 edition. |
| | Ann Weiner's works will be featured in the Permanent Human Rights Teaching Exhibition, When Caged Birds Sing. An opening reception will be on Thursday, October 28 from 6pm to 8pm and the show will be on view from October 29, 2021 through January 8, 2022. The exhibition showcases eight life-size sculptures representing current women’s rights activists who suffered and survived abuse because of their gender, and who continue to advocate for the rights of others at risk. Weiner is a long-time resident of Westport, CT who has had a tremendous impact on the artistic community through her works of art, writings, teaching and philanthropy. She has participated in numerous solo exhibitions and group exhibitions throughout her career. |

This is a cultural organizing and storytelling project that seeks to uplift essential forms of labor in an effort to build an inspiring vision of our shared future by rallying communities, educating organizers and guiding decision-makers to enact ambitious policies. This new, beautifully illustrated publication put out by the US Department of Arts and Culture, is a blueprint for reimagining society in the wake of Covid-19, co-created by community-based artists and cultural workers. On October 5th, President Biden announced his nominations for the new Chairs of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). In an unprecedented and historically significant action, President Biden has chosen Shelley Lowe (NEH) and Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson (NEA) (pictured here) for these positions. If confirmed, Shelly Lowe will be the nation's first Native American to serve as Chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities and Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson will be the first African American and Mexican American to serve as Chair of the National Endowment for the Arts.
