CAFC WELCOMES NEW STAFF MEMBER: LORIE LEWISWe are delighted to announce the appointment of Lorie Lewis as our new Communications and Marketing Director. Lorie started working in her new position August 2, and she will be replacing Meri Erickson, who worked as a 10-hour-a-week Communications Manager since 2016. Meri moved to Georgia in 2019 and will be continuing as a digital marketing consultant with her own company Buzz Engagement Marketing. We wish her the best for continuing success.
Lorie was most recently Marketing Director for the Milford Arts Council, from January 2018, managing all aspects of marketing strategy and content development, website creation and management, press relations, community outreach, social media engagement, branding and graphic identity, blog writing, communications, and experiential marketing. She graduated from Providence College with a BA in English and a minor in Business, and was awarded a Master’s degree with the highest honor of the Outstanding Achievement Award in Arts Management from George Mason University. She is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society and Americans for the Arts. We are thrilled to have Lorie join us as a key staff member and hope that you get to meet her shortly! |

The Theatre opened on the corner of Post and Unquowa roads in downtown Fairfield in 1920 as a vaudeville stage and after a checkered history was shut down in 2011. Hear Bill Harris, best known for his 16-year tenure as head of programming and production for the A&E television networks, who was brought in as director of the project; Evan Kleban of Kleban Properties, that bought and renovated the building; and Mark Barnhart, Director of Community and Economic Development for the Town of Fairfield who oversaw the whole project and has observed the state of affairs with the Theatre over two decades, stepping in and assisting where he could. This exhibition focuses on twelve important “downtown” artists who are committed to exploring the theatrical possibilities of puppet theater, featuring tableaus of the puppet theater work of remarkable artists. | | Award winning, multi media artist Barbara Boeck (Redding, CT) will have her first solo exhibit, Metamorphsis - Glass, Paper, Paint at the Fairfield University Bookstore in the Stairwell Gallery for the month of August. Shown for the first time will be the Paper Embossments paired with her sandblasted, carved glass panels, along with works made from cardboard packing material. |

| | | | | | | | Jay Petrow has paintings on display at the Mayor's Gallery in the Stamford Government Center in Stamford, Conn. Petrow's work has been on display since March 2020. Now, with the recent re-opening of the gallery, Petrow’s exhibit titled This Must Be The Place is finally available for public viewing. A reception will be held on September 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. | | Adelka Polak of Sova Dance & Puppet Theater will perform at Puppets in Paradise in Brattleboro, VT hosted by Sandglass Theater on September 4 & 5. She will be the featured artist at this year’s Newtown Arts Festival on September 18 & 19 with puppetry happenings throughout the afternoons. | | Since January 2021, local Stamford artist Alissa Siegal has partnered with state-wide nonprofit RiseUP for Arts, to launch Stamford Murals. The first mural, Blaze Your Own Trail will provide momentum to paint more public art murals throughout Stamford, CT and include more youth, local artists and community members in the process. Stamford Mural's goal is to raise $3,000 from at least 30 donors by Monday, September 6th. Donations can be made here |

Marti Etter will be receiving a Connecticut Arts Hero Award, an award that honors and celebrates Connecticut residents who are doing inspiring things in, for, or through the arts in Connecticut. Since 2016, the Connecticut Arts Hero Awards have introduced an array of remarkable individuals engaged in or supporting the arts - some publicly and some behind the scenes. Marti is co-founder and executive director of The Ballet School of Stamford, a non-profit devoted to nurturing young dancers through a disciplined and focused training program that brings out the best of their natural talent. The Ridgefield Guild will again offer a special opportunity for a small group show. Five artists, as selected by their juror, will share the entire downstairs gallery. Call for Art! Artists from across New England are invited to submit work to be included in the annual Fall exhibit Artoberfest at Salem Arts Association galleries in Salem, MA. Artoberfest explores the history, inspiration, and interpretation of Halloween, Witchcraft, and Autumn in New England. The exhibit will be curated by the Exhibitions Committee of Salem Arts Association. The exhibition juror will be Erica Feldmann of HausWitch. Help for Homeowners and Renters Emergency Rental Assistance offers funding of $21.6 Billion and is available to assist homeowners and renters. The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) has announced the 2021 award cycle of the Recharge New Surrealist Prize, a $7,000 award for painters living in the United States and U.S. Territories who are working in the New Surrealist style.
