News & Opportunities for Individual Creatives in

May 2024

In the month of May we take time to reflect and celebrate the important role that Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) have played in our shared history. Explore local in-person and digital events happening all month and find resources, podcasts, and collection items to learn more about AANHPI contributions.

Advancing Arts and Culture through Equity

We thrilled to announce our partnership with Fairfield County's Community Foundation and the Bridgeport Regional Business Council for the launch of the Arts in Service of Equity grant opportunity!

In recognition of the power arts and culture hold to amplify community voice, change narratives, promote inclusivity, and transform our communities for the better, we are excited to announce a 3-year renewable grant opportunity focused on arts innovation for systems change in Greater Bridgeport.

With a total funding pool of $1 million, this initiative will support up to three collaborative projects in Greater Bridgeport. Each project will receive three general operating support grants over three years, with the largest of the three grants coming in year one, and smaller wind-down grants in years two and three. General operating support will allow collaborating organizations flexibility to allocate funding in the ways that they deem best facilitate their projects’ goals and objectives. This funding seeks to leverage the arts to accelerate and catalyze social change in our community.

Outdoor Dinner & Art Exhibit: Cultivating Seeds of Community

We are co-organizing an evening filled with art, food, drinks, and fun! The community dinner will feature an array of dishes prepared by the chefs of 29 Markle, accompanied by libations, live music and the artistic talents from our community showcased on the fences on either side of the street; our vision is to turn the area into an exhibition space featuring work by local artists!

Save the Date: June 22nd with cocktails beginning at 3pm and dinner beginning at 5pm.

Artist Lab: Mastering the art of pricing

Wednesday, June 5

Crafting the perfect pricing strategy is an art form in itself, especially for artists seeking to value their work accurately while also making it accessible to potential buyers. "The Art of Pricing" will delve into this intricate balance, offering insights and strategies to help artists navigate the complex landscape of pricing their creations. From understanding the market demand and evaluating the uniqueness of their pieces to factoring in time, materials, and overhead costs, this month's Artist Worklab provides practical tips and considerations to empower artists in setting prices to ensure a sustainable career. Our panel of experts can help you master the topic of pricing, whether you're a seasoned professional or just starting out. Pricing strategies are helpful for knowing your worth for teaching, lecturing, performing, writing, and much more. Bring a small work (or a photo of one) for discussion during the workshop portion of the WorkLab.
