WELCOME NEW MEMBER

Natasha Karpinskaia is a Russian-born artist, art historian, educator and curator at the Gallery on the Green in Norwalk. She has had numerous solo and group shows both nationally and internationally. Her works are in many private and some corporate collections in the U.S. and Europe. She was a recipient of a prestigious grant from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts. She has been teaching courses in abstract painting, mixed media, printmaking, and art history at the Silvermine Guild of Art, Pyramid Atlantic in Washington, D.C., and other art centers. She was a professor of art history at the New York Academy of Art. She had also worked as a curator at the Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow, one of the largest museum of Russian art. She received her PhD (ABD) in American art from Columbia University in New York, M.A. from the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, Russia, and M.A. from the University of Linguistics in Moscow, Russia.

Melissa Benedek has an opening show at Chroma Fine Art Gallery through April 16th called LE PRIN TEMPS. She will also be exhibiting at RPAC Gallery in “The Artist Path” exhibit running March16th through May 14th. WEBSITE

Erin Dolan taught a one-day workshop at Carriage Barn Arts called "Creativity in Community" which was open to all artists, and creators. The objective of the workshop was to achieve a "Flow State" and experience fluidity and focus on the creative pursuit. Students learned about color and design through collage and created their own works of art in community. For information about Erin's workshops and more WEBSITE

Elisa Contemporary Art will be part of the Spring Affordable Art Fair in NYC from March 22-26 in booth D17. They will be showing tree photography by member, Nancy C. Woodward for the first time and seascapes and floral by Betty Ball.

Eugenie Diserio's painting, Rapture (acrylic on canvas, 25 x 19”) is included in the multimedia exhibit Celebrating Women - In Art and Life juried by Jeanine Jackson. The show commemorating Women’s History Month and Mother’s Day is hosted by the Stamford Art Association and is on view now through June 8th at the Ferguson Library Gallery and online  There will be an opening reception on March 30th, 6 - 7:30pm.

Carla Goldberg is exhibiting a number of her works from three different series at George Billis Gallery for the first time. Included are works from her series Ripple Effect Sculpture, Seafoam Sculptural Drawings and her kitschy Jellyfish Drawings on Portholes. Curated by Amy Zoller, the exhibition will highlight the work of these 8 Women: Lee Krasner, Laurie Fisher, Carla Goldberg, Melissa Mack, Julie Bowers Murphy, Dale Najarian, Wendy Briggs Powell and Katie Riesco On view through April 17th. Natasha Karpinskaia curator of Gallery on the Green in Norwalk, curated an exhibit called Paradigms: New and Revisitied with artist Sharon Cavagnolo at the ArtWorks on the Green exhibition in Norwalk. This group of paintings celebrates its own uncertainties and provides an escape from the boredom that ensues when everything is spelled out for us. Double meanings and enigmas are invited and uncertainty is expected. A reception with Artist Talk will be held on March 23rd, 6-8pm. WEBSITE

Joanie Landau had two pieces selected for the 43rd Annual Photography Show at the Carriage Barn Arts Center - Miraculous Ranunculus and Bouquet 91. The exhibiting juror is Christina Zanetti. She was also one of 14 artists from the Arts Collective of Westport who showed at the Westport Country Playhouse Barn. WEBSITE

Debbie Smith  is part of a 3-person show exhibiting 15 ceramic sculptures as well as Water Dance, a multi sensory, immersive installation. The opening is on March 26th in the Crown Gallery at Metro Art Studios during their Open Studios event.

The Artists Collective of Westport had a pop up show March 2-5 at Westport Country Playhouse. The show included a reception and an Artist Talk where artist answered questions, talked about their process, medium and the other important nuances they focused on to create their works. The artists included many CAFC members: Nina Bentley, Suzanne Benton, Eric Chiang, Lynne Knobel, Joanie Landau, Susan Murray, Dale Najarian, Judy Noel, Julie O’Connor, Eileen Panepinto, Gay Schempp, Renee Santhouse, Joan Wheeler and Marc Zaref. Brian Whelan has been working on a commission for the Wyoming Episcopal Diocese for one year. The paintings are now ready for delivery in plenty of time for the June 3rd John Roberts Festival in the Wind River Reservation. Brian also published a book called Public Personas with over 70 paintings of the famous, the infamous, and the family and friends of the artist. The book includes a revealing Q & A between Whelan and theoretical physicist Ronald Rendell on masks, portraits, caricatures, the difference between truth and facts and even the Uncanny Valley. DEEP LISTENING WITH COMMUNITY MINDFULNESS PROJECT


March 28 | 9:15 - 10:15 am


Join FCCF’s Center for Nonprofit Excellence in an inspiring workshop that connects perfectly with the CAFC theme of the month. The Mindful Listening + Speaking interactive workshop combines the principles of mindfulness and non-violent communication. Attendees build the skills, trust, and confidence needed to listen to others and to speak in a way that we can be heard. It involves deep listening to understand the needs and interests of the communities we serve - an essential skill for nonprofits and anyone who wants to communicate more effectively.

GRANT WRITING ESSENTIALS FOR ARTISTS 2.0 ON MARCH 29th


Join Jessica Morozowich, Funding Booster Program Manager & Professional Grant Writer, for a free virtual workshop that takes a deep look at developing compelling artistic statements, how to diversify income for stronger financial health, and the importance of collaboration & how to do it right! We’ll continue to look at CT Office of the Arts funding opportunities for artists, and review final report requirements.

CT RESIDENTS AND THE ARTS, CULTURE, AND HUMANITIES - BROADER POPULATION SURVEY FINDINGS


On Thursday, March 23 at 3 pm, join Susie Wilkening from Wilkening Consulting and Scott Wands from CT Humanities to see what the survey revealed and how cultural organizations can use the findings. This survey of more than 1,000 Connecticut adult residents to reveals how Connecticut engages with the arts, culture, and humanities, what motivates them to do so, and the perceived impact and value of the arts, culture, and humanities in our state.
