News & Opportunities for Individual Creatives in

Fairfield County CT

June 2024

Beyond the fireworks displays and barbecues of this summer month there is a cultural affect that’s profound and awe-inspiring. Art has always shared an intimate relationship with society, both as a reflection and a catalyst for cultural change. Through its multiple forms and movements, art provides a lens through which we can explore values, beliefs, and progressions of a society at any given time. What is the cultural influence of freedom and how does it express itself for everyone living in our community? If we explore its historical context, its reflection of identity and diversity, its response to technological advancements and societal forces, and its economic and educational implications through art what do we see and what are we creating together?

Lindsay Close Wallace is a collage artist. She use bits cut from magazine photos, pasted on to a colored cardstock background, to create semi-realistic and imaginary scenes. Her pieces range from 8 x 10 inches to 12 x 12 inches. In her twenties she designed and executed period costumes for many Connecticut community theater groups, receiving excellent reviews for her work. In her thirties, while working in NYC's fashion district as a production manager and then assistant designer, she attended Parson's School of Design and received an Associates Degree in Fashion and Textile Design. Now having recently retired, she is again allowing her creative side to take over, and spends much of her time engaged in collage artwork.

The Transition to The HIVE. Beechwood Arts, is reimagining what the Arts Experience could be. But also, in the process, they heard from the community that a critical part of the magic was the sense of community, connection and collaboration they experienced across a wide diversity of people. Six Art-World Cool Kids Take Over Abandoned High School in Upstate NY

At The Campus

It is no secret that the art world can be a lonely place. There is something distinctly isolating about competing with your peers for one of the few, underpaid curatorial positions or a spot in a coveted residency, or silently begrudging the sold-out booth next to yours at an art fair. Just a few miles southeast of Hudson, The Campus, an abandoned high school-turned-art exhibition space shared by six New York City galleries, proposes something of a salve: a project centered on camaraderie, with shared profits to boot.
