News & Opportunities for Individual Creatives in

Fairfield County CT

February 2024

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS

Chris Froehlich is a master woodworker, sculptor and painter. His approach to artwork comes from an intuitive relationship developed with wood over the last 40 years. The sculptures come from what was once a living entity, what’s left is the structure or the skeleton with its vibrational memories of its history, growth patterns, and invasions. It was then arrested in its de-composing process to tell a story using its structure. WEBSITE

Barbara Galazzo is a fused glass and mosaic artist originally from New Orleans, LA. She recently moved to Connecticut after having lived in NY for over 35 years. She melds light and color into a kaleidoscopic window of movement, through the seductive medium of glass. A sense of joy and playfulness is found through her work.Galazzo is an artist, art promoter, curator and gallery director. WEBSITE

Robert Dancik holds a Masters degree in sculpture from Northern Illinois University, and a BA in fine art from Adelphi University. He has been an artist/teacher for more than 30 years and has taught people from kindergarten to graduate school while exhibiting his jewelry and sculpture in museums and galleries across the US and in Europe, Japan, and Australia. His work is in numerous permanent collections. WEBSITE

CAFC NEWS

Black history in the arts is a rich tapestry woven with resilience, creativity, and profound cultural contributions. Through the groundbreaking poetry of Langston Hughes to the soul-stirring music of Nina Simone, black artists have shaped and reshaped the artistic landscape, challenging societal norms and celebrating the beauty of Black identity. Through visual arts, such as the vibrant paintings of Jean-Michel Basquiat, and theatrical masterpieces like August Wilson's "Fences," Black artists have not only illuminated the struggles and triumphs of the Black experience but have also inspired generations with their unapologetic expression of truth and beauty. Black artists continue to push boundaries, redefine artistic genres, and leave an indelible mark on the world stage.

This month, we celebrate Black artists, creatives, and leaders in the arts across coastal Fairfield County!

Stay tuned to our social media channels all month to hear from some of the Black artists in our CAFC membership.

MEMBER NEWS

Barbara Ringer currently has a solo exhibition online entitled, Ghosts Still Haunt These Walls, with The Camp Gallery. Nineteen of her photographic works can be seen on both Camp Gallery’s website and on Artsy.com . "Ghosts Still Haunt These Walls fosters a space in which one can sit in the uncomfortable feeling of remembering what one would rather remain unearthed, and serves as a reminder that years later, when time has corroded memories into muted phantasms, they have never left us and must be faced.”

Elizabeth White is happy announce that she is participating in the exhibition WAR at Hudson Valley MOCA. The basis of the exhibition, though conceived over 9 months ago, has been prescient, with current ever expanding conflicts, simmering anger boiled over, resurfacing hatreds—a world on fire! How artists choose to address this overarching topic, bring attention to the varied innuendos, personal, political, real and imagined, and perhaps offer a level field for discussion, empathy and understanding, this is the hope.

Remy Sosa, a painter and mixed media artist, is the Metro Art Studios Featured Artist with an exhibit on view through March 16. Her exhibit, Aveces Mi Pierdo (sometimes I get lost), uses art to explore interiority and emotional intelligence. Her style of deconstruction and layering of elements combines painting and a variety of materials - acrylic, oil, charcoal as well as everyday household items- leading to a creative reinterpretation of portraiture that reflects the malleability and fragility of humans.
