Guru Purnima

July 13, 2022

The word Guru is derived from two words, 'Gu' and 'Ru'. The Sanskrit word "Gu" means darkness or ignorance. "Ru" denotes the remover of that darkness. Therefore one who removes darkness of our ignorance is a Guru. On this day, disciples  pay respect to their Guru. It falls on the day of full moon, Purnima, in the month of Ashadham.

Without the blessing of Guru it is not possible to attain Enlightenment or Mukti. The Guru serves the ultimate and essential role of helping the soul accomplish its journey and reach the goal. It is the Guru who helps put an end to infinite cycle of life and death and frees the person from worldly limitations of body and mind.

Any puja ritual done on Guru Purnima is very powerful, on this auspicious day Sri Sudarshana chakra and Saligrama abhishekam, Sri Dakshinamurthy Swami abhishekam, Sri Panchamukhi Shivalinga abhishekam.
