Vakratunda mahaakaaya suryakoti samaprabhaa Nirvighnam kurumedeva sarvakaaryeshu sarvadaa
Salutations to the great Lord Ganesha, whose curved trunk
(vakra-tunda) and massive body (maha-kaayaa) shines like a million suns
(surya-koti) and showers his blessings on everyone (sama-prabhaa). Oh my
lord of lords, Ganesha (kurume-deva), kindly remove all obstacles
(nir-vighnam), always (sarva-) and forever (sarvadaa-) from all my
activities and endeavors (sarva-kaaryeshu). |

Sri Ganesha is the embodiment of the all-pervading universal energy.
Worshiping Sri Ganesha during this ten day festival will remove all obstacles and bestow the devotee with happiness and prosperity. Sri Ganesha is also known as Lord Vighneshwara, the Lord of any and all obstacles (material, financial, health-related or spiritual). His dharma is to remove the obstructions and hindrances that prevent us from living life to its fullest. He could be considered as the most endearing
form of all Hindu deities. His birthday, Ganesha Chaturthi, falls on the fourth day of the bright fortnight of the month Bhadrapada, and it is
celebrated with great devotion and delight.

Amma teaches Sri Ganesha Pratah Smarana and chants the early morning
prayer to Lord Ganesha. Amma also demonstrates the way to do the
shodasa upachara puja (16 devotional offerings) to Lord Ganesha in a
simple way with the 108 sacred names of Lord Ganesha, who removes all
obstacles in worldly or spiritual life. Amma's continuous
chanting of the Ganesha mantra 'Om Gam Ganapataye namaha' takes one to
the higher level of consciousness. |

Let us keep the deep
symbolism of Divinity in mind as we experience the omnipresent in the form of the
elephant God, yet be fully aware that Ganesha is very much within us. This is the wisdom we should carry as we celebrate Ganesha Chaturthi.
Jai Karunamayi!
