The Great American Songbook, returns to Jerusalem on Tuesday, May 30th, at 8:00 PM, and represents the vast treasure trove of popular songs written for vaudeville, Broadway, movies, and radio from the 1920s to the present day. These timeless compositions have been crafted by some of America's most renowned songwriters, such as George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein, Lorenz Hart, Stephen Sondheim, and many more. Their works have graced both Broadway stages and movie screens for generations.
This impressive collection has provided the soundtrack for countless lives, with legendary singers like Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Barbra Streisand, Peggy Lee, and Bing Crosby delivering unforgettable renditions. Today, artists such as Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, as well as '70s rock icons like Linda Ronstadt and Rod Stewart, have or continue to bring these classic songs to new audiences. Current popular singers like Josh Groban and Michael Buble have built their careers showcasing and interpreting songs from the “Songbook”.
At the Great American Songbook Jerusalem concerts, we celebrate these incredible composers by performing a selection of their cherished works. Performed by professional musicians, our performances are woven into a narrative that provides historical context, enhancing your experience as you relive the moments when these songs first captured your heart.
Since 2018, we have showcased the talents of George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Rodgers and Hart, and Harold Arlen. While the pandemic put our concerts on hold, we are now eager to bring the Great American Songbook back to Jerusalem as part of our collective healing and restoration.
On May 30, 2023, we invite you to join us at the Khan Theater in Jerusalem for "Voices in Harmony," a special concert featuring the works of legendary Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim and pop music icon Burt Bacharach. We will also perform selections from other renowned composers like Rodgers and Hammerstein, Leonard Bernstein, Irving Berlin, Steven Schwartz, and Maury Yeston.
