Fashion on the Ration: The Language of Clothes in British Wartime Domestic Propaganda

Associate Professor of English from the University of Northern Colorado Dr. Sarah Cornish will be speaking at WTAMU as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series. Cornish will be giving a formal lecture on how British propaganda influenced fashion during periods of war in European countries. Listen to this free lecture on March 11th at 4:30 PM at the West Texas A&M University's Cornette Library

Whiskey Tasting

On Thursday, March 12th, Crush invites you to an exquisite evening of drinking and eating. Included in the ticket price of $45 are four whiskey tastings and a selection of paired appetizers from Chef Smajo. The evening starts at 6:30 PM.

Yellow City Sounds Live: Rodney Branigan

This Amarillo native returns for an intimate gig in the Panhandle PBS Studio on March 12th at 7 PM. He learned to play in Austin, perform in Los Angeles, craft songs in Nashville and put it all together in London where he's played all types of music in all types of venues. Tickets are $10.

Pi Day

March 14th is Einstein's birthday, and the Don Harrington Discovery Center will be counting down to Pi Day on 3.14 at 1:59 PM (3.1415926). Join DHDC for a FREE slice of pie and the most fun you will ever have with math! The pie will be served at 1:59 PM until supplies last. There will also be a pie-eating contest at 1 PM and other fun Pi-themed activities all day.

On March 14th you can celebrate 35 Years of Friends as he takes new music and fan favorites from his extensive repertoire on the road.

Palo Duro Canyon State Park

Palo Duro Canyon is the second-largest canyon and largest-driveable canyon in the United States. Its fantastic landscape served as the last home to the Comanche and inspiration for some of Georgia O'Keefe's best-known works. There are a TON of activities available in the Palo Duro Canyon area, here are a couple of activities led by the park's Rangers!

Hike the Rock Garden

Looking for a challenge? Then this hike is for you! Hike on of Palo Duro's most difficult trails with a ranger and test your mettle safely on this 5-mile hike. Meet at the Rock Garden Trailhead on March 14th at 8:30 AM. Wear appropriate hiking gear and bring at least one gallon (3 liters) of water. This hike will last for at least four hours.

Boulders and Burrell

Take a hike with GeoJeff, a local geologist, and discover the canyon in a gneiss way! This will be a 2.5-mile hike along the Cliffside Juniper Trail (a moderate hike). Meet at this trailhead on March 16th at 1 PM. Make sure to wear weather-appropriate clothes and bring plenty of water.

The Amarillo Museum of Art is displaying this new exhibit until April 5th. Vanessa German is an American sculptor, painter, writers, activist, performer, and poet based in Pittsburgh. German is a self-described citizen artist, and explore the power of art and love as a transformative force in the dynamic cultural exosystem of communities and neighborhoods.

Native Lifeways of the Plains

This exhibit showcases the material culture of the indigenous people of the Great Plains. Among the key artifacts featured are Quanah Parker’s headdress and lance, the Kiowa calendar, and a recently conserved breastplate dating circa 1880. Select pieces from the museum’s art and photographic collections are included to help contextualize the objects within the scope of traditional lifeways. See this exhibit during regular museum hours until May 2020.
