Indie Lens Pop-Up Screening
|
Panhandle PBS and Independent Lens host a free screening of "Always in Season" at Amarillo College's West Campus on February 25th at 6:30 PM. Centered around the mysterious death of Lennon Lacy, this film explores the lingering impact of more than a century of lynching and connects this form of historic racial terrorism to racial violence today. A panel discussion will follow.

Stories of Struggle: Segregation and Civic Rights in the South
|
On February 26th at 6 PM, The Distinguished Lecture Series presents this talk at West Texas A&M's Jack B. Kelley Legacy Hall. Joanne Bland marched with Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma in 1965. Bland will be sharing her experiences of segregation and activism during the civil rights movement in the South.

Making a Hand Book Signing

Join Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum on February 27th at 6 PM for a free book signing and talk by author Michael R. Grauer. Making a Hand is his latest work about the artist and first curator at PPHM, H.D. Bugbee. Light refreshments will be served and a book signing will follow the lecture.

Native Lifeways of the Plains
|
This exhibit showcases the material culture of the indigenous people of the Great Plains. Among the key artifacts featured are Quanah Parker’s headdress and lance, the Kiowa calendar, and a recently conserved breastplate dating circa 1880. Select pieces from the museum’s art and photographic collections are included to help contextualize the objects within the scope of traditional lifeways. See this exhibit during regular museum hours until May 2020.
