Lecture: Temple Grandin

On February 18th at 7 PM, West Texas A&M Distinguished Lecture Series host Temple Grandin. Grandin, an animal science professor at Colorado State University, first gained prominence when she published her scientific article, "Livestock Behavior as Related to Handling Facilities Design." This article presented the idea that animals are sensitive to the details of their environment.

LaToya Lain Vocal Performance

On February 20th at 7:30 PM at the Amarillo Opera and Amarillo Museum of Art present this collaboration in the Amarillo College Washington Campus Concert Hall Theatre. A gallery viewing of AMoA's Achievement in Art: The Harmon and Harriet Collection of African American Art: Works on Paper and Vanessa German: In a Fit of Glory will be available after the performance.

2020 Southern Plains Conference: "Representing, Modeling, and Imagining Water on the Southern Plains"

The Center of the Study of the American West (CSAW) will present its second biennial Southern Plains Conference, February 20th - 22nd at 3:30 PM. The conference theme brings attention to how experts, including scientists, measure and understand the Ogallala Aquifer, and then how they help the general public see and understand it in turn.

Jurassic Quest

Be the first to dive deep beneath the ocean's surface into the darkest depths of prehistory. Discover some of the largest creatures to ever exist including the Megalodon, Tylosaurus, Elasmosaurus, Ichthyosaurus, and many more! There will be life-sized dinosaurs, huge walking dinosaur rides, a life-sized T-Rex skull, new fossils, and ancient ocean creatures. The 2013 National Champions take on the competition on February 21st and 22nd at 7:05 in the Amarillo Civic Center Complex. Tickets are $14 for adults and $9 for children under 12.

The Kwahadi Museum of the American Indian invites you to come out and enjoy their 55th Annual Winter Night Show, Tyuonyi. Panhandle Cutting Horse Association

The rider selects one cow from the herd of 60, separates a cow from the herd and prevents the cow from returning. Trained cutting horses are incredibly intelligent and instinctive athletes. The competition is judged based on difficulty and how well the horse anticipates and reacts. This is the only equine competition where the horse is required to think. Come see these amazing animals on February 22nd and 23rd at 8 PM at the Amarillo Tri-State Exposition.

Pushing Chain Live

Head out to beautiful Starlight Canyon Bed & Breakfast on February 23rd for this live concert starting at 7:30 PM. There is a $15 suggested donation and this event is BYO! This duo has been performing together in various manifestations since 1997, and plays folky-tonk music that's sure to make for a good time!

The Amarillo Museum of Art is displaying this new exhibit until April 5th. Vanessa German is an American sculptor, painter, writers, activist, performer, and poet based in Pittsburgh. German is a self-described citizen artist, and explore the power of art and love as a transformative force in the dynamic cultural exosystem of communities and neighborhoods.

The Amarillo Museum of Art presents one of the most comprehensive traveling exhibitions ever organized featuring works on paper by African American artists from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. Don't miss this amazing collection on display until March 29, 2020.

Native Lifeways of the Plains

This exhibit showcases the material culture of the indigenous people of the Great Plains. Among the key artifacts featured are Quanah Parker’s headdress and lance, the Kiowa calendar, and a recently conserved breastplate dating circa 1880. Select pieces from the museum’s art and photographic collections are included to help contextualize the objects within the scope of traditional lifeways. See this exhibit during regular museum hours until May 2020.
