Vanessa German: In a Fit of Glory

The Amarillo Museum of Art is displaying this new exhibit until April 5th. Vanessa German is an American sculptor, painter, writers, activist, performer, and poet based in Pittsburgh. German is a self-described citizen artist, and explore the power of art and love as a transformative force in the dynamic cultural exosystem of communities and neighborhoods.

Geeks Who Drink brings the nation's best live hosted pub quiz to Six Car Pub & Brewery! Join them on January 15th at 7:30 PM for eight rounds of audio, visual, and live hosted trivia. The quiz is free to play and prizes will be given for answering bonus questions and to top teams!

Barrio Art Show

The Barrio Arts Project will capture the history of the Amarillo Barrio Neighborhood through art and story. The Barrio has a rich history, and by exploring history through art, the project seeks to not only inspire the mind but also touch hearts. Preview shows will be held on January 16th from 7 to 9 PM and 17th from 2 to 8 PM, and the Premiere Show will be held on January 18th from 5 to 8 PM. The show will be held in the Wesley Community Center (1615 S Roberts)

Barrio Historical Sites But Tour

This tour will begin at the Wesley Community Center (1615 S Roberts) at 6 PM on January 16th. With the purchase of a $50, you will receive a seat, first patrons through the door at the art show, a Barrio historical book and map, snacks, two drinks, AND a $25 voucher towards the purchase of an art piece at the Barrio Arts Project Show. All proceeds benefit the Barrio Neighborhood Projects.

Make a Hand Book Signing

Join Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum for a book signing and talk by author Michael R. Grauer on January 16th at 6 PM. Making a Hand is his latest work about artist and first curator at PPHM, H.D. Bugbee. Light refreshments will be served and a book signing will follow the lecture. This event is free and open to the public, and The PPHM Store will be selling the book.

Baskerville

The House of Baskervilles has turned into a murderously funny adventure. Sherlock Holmes is on the case as the male heirs of the Baskerville line are being dispatched one by one. To find their killer, Holmes and Watson must brave the desolate moors before a family curse dooms the newest heir. Come see this show at Amarillo Little Theatre on January 16th at 7:30 PM and January 17th and 18th at 8 PM.

On January 17th and 18th at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts, the Amarillo Symphony will play Ludwig van Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61.

Mindfulness At The Museum: Art Centered

Namaste! Find your center at Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum on January 18th with their friendly "back to basics" Yoga class. The class will be held in PPHM's art galleries from 10 AM to 12 PM. Enjoy the art that surrounds you while exercising.

Native Lifeways of the Plains

This exhibit showcases the material culture of the indigenous people of the Great Plains. Among the key artifacts featured are Quanah Parker’s headdress and lance, the Kiowa calendar, and a recently conserved breastplate dating circa 1880. Select pieces from the museum’s art and photographic collections are included to help contextualize the objects within the scope of traditional lifeways. See this exhibit during regular museum hours until May 2020.

The Don Harrington Discovery Center wants to spark your curiosity of the wonders of electricity in this interactive exhibit. Just as Ben Franklin engaged in hands-on experimentation, you will too! Come by during regular museum hours for this hair-raising exhibit.
