The Amarillo Sod Poodles
|
Amarillo's own minor league baseball team has had an amazing inaugural season! They were voted the best MiLB name in a FOX Sports poll, played in Ballpark Digest's best Double-A Ballpark (Hodgetown), named 2019 Texas League Organization of the Year, AND won the Texas League Championship. Now, the Soddies have been named Baseball America's 2019 League Team of the Year! Congratulations Amarillo Sod Poodles, we're looking forward to seeing you "play ball" next year.

Indie Lens Pop-Up Screenings: "The First Rainbow Coalition"

Panhandle PBS and "Independent Lens" present this free screening on December 10th at 6:30 PM at Alamo Tree Center (1502 S. Cleveland St.). The film charts the history and enduring legacy of a groundbreaking multiethnic coalition that rocked Chicago in the 1960s.

Christmas in the Gardens

The Amarillo Botanical Gardens will be lit up with 300,000 Christmas lights for you to see December 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th at 6 PM. Admission is $5. You'll be able to take pictures with Santa, enjoy hot chocolate and coffee, and much more!

The Nutcracker
|
This weekend, Lone Star Ballet presents Christmas time favorite, The Nutcracker. Follow this entrancing story of a girl who befriends a nutcracker that comes to life on Christmas Eve and battles the evil mouse king. Shows are at the Amarillo Civic Center Complex and dates are December 13th at 7:30 PM, and December 14th at 2:30 and 7:30 PM, December 14th at 2 and 6 PM.

Texas Panhandle Tuba Christmas
|
On December 14th at 3 PM at West Gate Mall, players of all ages throughout the panhandle area come together to celebrate the unique sound of the tuba. This annual festival is dedicated to the holiday and to great performers and teachers of the tuba.

Ghosts of Palo Duro's Past
|
Join Palo Duro Canyon State Park on December 14th at 6 PM for a night filled with historical figures of the canyon! Talk to Charles Goodnight about the struggles of the 19th-century travel. Listen to Isabel Robinson as she paints a picture of the historical art camp in the canyon. Hear the trials of a Civilian Conservation Corps Man. Discover methods of survival from a prehistoric woman. Meet at the Soapberry Day Use Area and dress for the weather.

Discover the properties of sound and vibration. What do sounds feel like? What is the difference between the meow of a kitten and the roar of a lion? How does the mass of an object affect the way it vibrates or the sounds that it makes? Find out this summer with this BRAND NEW exhibit produced by the Don Harrington Discovery Center! Biennial 600: Textile + Fiber Exhibition
|
AMoA Biennial 600: Textile + Fiber is the eighth in an ongoing series of juried biennial exhibitions exploring specific areas of artistic practice, material, and content. Artworks were selected from entries submitted by artists residing within a 600-mile radius of Amarillo, Texas. AMoA received over 500 artwork entries for this year’s Biennial 600. Artworks from more than 60 artists are included in the exhibition. Come to the Amarillo Museum of Art during regular museum hours to check out this inspiring exhibit on display until December 22nd.

The Don Harrington Discovery Center wants to spark your curiosity of the wonders of electricity in this interactive exhibit. Just as Ben Franklin engaged in hands-on experimentation, you will too! Come by during regular museum hours for this hair-raising exhibit.

Native Lifeways of the Plains
|
This exhibit showcases the material culture of the indigenous people of the Great Plains. Among the key artifacts featured are Quanah Parker’s headdress and lance, the Kiowa calendar, and a recently conserved breastplate dating circa 1880. Select pieces from the museum’s art and photographic collections are included to help contextualize the objects within the scope of traditional lifeways. See this exhibit during regular museum hours until May 2020.
