It's Time for the CMSA Wrangler World Championship!

Looking for a truly western experience? Amarillo is proud to be the host of the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Wrangler World Championship at the Amarillo Tri-State Exposition! This is the fastest-growing Equestrian Sport in the Nation where mounted contestants compete in a fast action timed event. Who can hit their mark the fastest with 5 blank rounds? Come out and see! This event is free to watch in the Amarillo National Center beginning at 8 AM on October 16th - 19th. The Showcase of Champions will begin at 7 PM on October 18th

Jazztober

Come join Center City Amarillo on the lawn of the Bivins Mansion (1000 S. Polk) on October 15th at 6 PM for live jazz! Bring your dinner, drinks, blanket or chair, and relax to the sounds of local jazz musicians. This week's entertainment will be the Jim Laughlin Quartet.

Join Buddy from "Dinosaur Train" as he visits Dinosaur Club at the Amarillo Public Library North Branch (1500 NE 24th Ave.). This is a FREE event where Buddy and his friends will share stories and make crafts! Come out and visit him on October 17th from 4 to 5 PM.

Opening Reception of In Tune With Postcards from the High Plains

Cerulean Gallery presents an exhibition of artwork by Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson, Jon Revett, Carmen Menza, and 29 artists featured in High Plains Public Radio's "Postcards from the High Plains". Come by this FREE event supporting High Plains Public Radio on October 17th from 6 to 8:30 PM to enjoy refreshments from local partners and a meeting with the artists. There will also be live music by Jason Hodges & the Panhandle Playboys.

Palo Duro Prairie Palooza!

Become a Texas Time Traveler and see the wonders of the past! Dive into an evening filled with the magic of Palo Duro Canyon at their biggest cultural event of the year! There will be Native American dances, atlatl, and Dutch oven demos, cannon fire, and much, much more! Come to Wolfberry Campground on October 18th from 5 - 7:30 PM for cultural booths, 7:30 - 8:30 PM for the Native American dance, and 9 - 10:30 PM for their star party!

Llano Cemetery will team with Amarillo Genealogical Society to present Llano's 14th Annual Historic Twilight Tour on October 19th from 3 to 7 PM. The Big Deal

The next big Discover AfterDark is coming, so save the date and make plans to get buzzy with Don Harrington Discovery Center at TBD on October 19th from 7 to 11 PM. This adult event will feature an electrifying performance by ArcAttack, a performance art group that specializes in Tesla coil music, high voltage stunts, and educational outreach. They've been dubbed the world's most dangerous rock band! Guests will also enjoy music by The Solano Project, heavy hors d'oeuvres from Joe's Catering, delicious treats from Purple Flamingo Pops, an open bar, and a chance to try out Amarillo's newest Vodka from Bomb City Distillery! All of this included in the ticket price of $90 (members) and $95 (non-members).

Horseback Riding

Cowgirls and Cowboys in the West offers a western adventure tour that celebrates the heritage of the Real West with their various tour offerings and horseback ride tours on the edge of Palo Duro Canyon! 

Cattle, Cowboys, & Culture

This is a special exhibition at PPHM, showcasing the shared heritage between Amarillo and Kansas City through material objects and artifacts, including saddles, photographs, letters, architectural renderings other functional goods in the PPHM collections. See this exhibit during regular museum hours until December 2019.

See this exhibit during regular hours until December 2019.

Biennial 600: Textile + Fiber Exhibition

AMoA Biennial 600: Textile + Fiber is the eighth in an ongoing series of juried biennial exhibitions exploring specific areas of artistic practice, material, and content. Artworks were selected from entries submitted by artists residing within a 600-mile radius of Amarillo, Texas. AMoA received over 500 artwork entries for this year’s Biennial 600. Artworks from more than 60 artists are included in the exhibition. Come to the Amarillo Museum of Art during regular museum hours to check out this inspiring exhibit on display until December 22nd.

All Charged Up

The Don Harrington Discovery Center wants to spark your curiosity of the wonders of electricity in this interactive exhibit. Just as Ben Franklin engaged in hands-on experimentation, you will too! Come by during regular museum hours for this hair-raising exhibit.

Native Lifeways of the Plains

This exhibit showcases the material culture of the indigenous people of the Great Plains. Among the key artifacts featured are Quanah Parker’s headdress and lance, the Kiowa calendar, and a recently conserved breastplate dating circa 1880. Select pieces from the museum’s art and photographic collections are included to help contextualize the objects within the scope of traditional lifeways. See this exhibit during regular museum hours until May 2020.
