ZOO Lights Safari
|
The Zoo is going WILD with holiday lights and festive music. See thousands of sparkling holiday light and animated light displays. Meet Rudolph, the Grinch, Frosty, and other holiday characters. Kids can play holiday games, make a craft in the Santa Elves workshop or make a treat for our feather friends. Warm-up with hot chocolate or other seasonal treats as you enjoy the sights and sounds of the holidays. Be sure to complete your holiday shopping at the Zootique gift cart for that special animal lover in your family. The event runs from December 5th - 8th from 6 to 8 PM.

Christmas in the Gardens

The Amarillo Botanical Gardens will be lit up with 300,000 Christmas lights for you to see December 5, 6, 7, and 8th at 6 PM. Admission is $5. You'll be able to take pictures with Santa, enjoy hot chocolate and coffee, and much more!

Route 66 Visitor Center Grand Opening
|
On December 5th at 1900 SW 6th Ave, featured artists Ben Jacobi and Jim Livingston will be showcasing their latest fine art photography. This all-day event starting at 10 AM will have food, live music, and will be the perfect place for Christmas shopping. Nick Gerlich will be on hand to sign his latest book on Route 66.

Enjoy a jolly good time filled with cheerful activities and delightful crafts to celebrate the holiday season! On December 7th Santa will stop by The Don Harrington Discovery Center for pictures from 10 AM to 1 PM. The Grinch will be sulking around in the afternoon looking to steal Santa's thunder. Go ahead and snap a picture of him if you dare! There will also be science demonstrations throughout the day.

Christmas Open House
|
On December 7th from 1 to 5 PM the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum will be bustling with Christmas activity as role players in Pioneer town invite you to step in and step back to Christmas in the 1890s. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at Christmas Open House ready to take requests from children who visit them in their sleigh in the snowy woods of Hazlewood Lecture Hall. In the basement, children can make holiday crafts in the craft corner. In the Petroleum Theater, storytellers will weave Christmas stories in a cozy living room setting with a crackling fire while songs by children’s choirs and entertainers fill the rest of the museum with music from the Derrick Room.

This is a special exhibition at PPHM, showcasing the shared heritage between Amarillo and Kansas City through material objects and artifacts, including saddles, photographs, letters, architectural renderings other functional goods in the PPHM collections. See this exhibit during regular museum hours until December 2019.

Sounds of Shapes

Discover the properties of sound and vibration. What do sounds feel like? What is the difference between the meow of a kitten and the roar of a lion? How does the mass of an object affect the way it vibrates or the sounds that it makes? Find out this summer with this BRAND NEW exhibit produced by the Don Harrington Discovery Center! See this exhibit during regular hours until December 2019.

Biennial 600: Textile + Fiber Exhibition
|
AMoA Biennial 600: Textile + Fiber is the eighth in an ongoing series of juried biennial exhibitions exploring specific areas of artistic practice, material, and content. Artworks were selected from entries submitted by artists residing within a 600-mile radius of Amarillo, Texas. AMoA received over 500 artwork entries for this year’s Biennial 600. Artworks from more than 60 artists are included in the exhibition. Come to the Amarillo Museum of Art during regular museum hours to check out this inspiring exhibit on display until December 22nd.

The Don Harrington Discovery Center wants to spark your curiosity of the wonders of electricity in this interactive exhibit. Just as Ben Franklin engaged in hands-on experimentation, you will too! Come by during regular museum hours for this hair-raising exhibit.

Native Lifeways of the Plains
|
This exhibit showcases the material culture of the indigenous people of the Great Plains. Among the key artifacts featured are Quanah Parker’s headdress and lance, the Kiowa calendar, and a recently conserved breastplate dating circa 1880. Select pieces from the museum’s art and photographic collections are included to help contextualize the objects within the scope of traditional lifeways. See this exhibit during regular museum hours until May 2020.
