Subject: Amarillo Area Heat Advisory

Hello again!

It will be a very hot weekend. Please make sure to advise your guests that if they will be enjoying our beautiful outdoor scenery, bring plenty of water and dress for the heat. The email below contains information from the Amarillo Area Office of Emergency Management. This is great information to share with guests and to place in visible areas!

Additionally, I'd like to issue a correction for the Amarillo Community Market held at the Santa Fe Depot. The Front-Desk Friday email listed their hours as 9 AM to 1 PM on July 11th. Due to the heat, they will be wrapping up at 12 PM instead.

Tips for Hiking with Dogs

Here are some helpful tips from Palo Duro Canyon State Park - Texas Parks and Wildlife!

  • Avoid hiking between 11 AM and 5 PM
  • Follow the 5-second rule. If you can't put the back of your hand on the ground for 5 seconds, it's too hot for your dog to hike.
  • Take AT LEAST one gallon of water for your dog.

And, as always, please clean up after your animal. There are dumpsters around the park for baggies.
