Exhibits

Achievement in Art: The Albritton Collection

Claude Albritton has amassed one of the most comprehensive and encyclopedic collections of Texas art in private hands.  With examples from early to contemporary Texas art, the Albritton collection follows a lineage of distinguished and influential artists working in the lone star state. Early examples include paintings by Julian Onderdonk, who is arguably most well-known for his celebrated landscape paintings that inspired the Texas bluebonnet genre.

Brian Cobble: Place and Time

Cobble began his career as an oil painter, but now works primarily in pastel.  His work depicts the lonely and often barren urban and rural landscape in a photo-realistic manner.  Fellow artist and friend, Roger Winter states, “Cobble sees the landscape superimposed with fences, artificial waterways, refineries, quickly installed human habitation projects, trailer parks, asphalt slabs, and on and on and on. He paints the outward signs of a mobile seminomadic human culture, a culture in constant change.”

The Panhandle Prohibition

The Panhandle Prohibition Exhibition takes you back to the Texas Panhandle in the 1920s. Learn the diversity of music and opinions in our very own recreated speakeasy complete with augmented reality and get your very own mugshot. Understand fashion, consumerism, and politics of the day while listening to some great jazz.

Dinosaur Discoveries: Ancient Fossils, New Ideas at PPHM

The Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum presents an engaging exhibition that will reveal a vivid picture of what living, breathing dinosaurs were really like! This exhibition introduces how current thinking about dinosaur biology has changed over the past two decades.

Toys: The Inside Story

Explore the inner workings of toys! If your parents never let you break open your Etch A Sketch to find out how it works, of it you've been wondering how to stop your toddler's push toy from making such an infernal racket, you'll love this exhibit that illustrates the simple mechanisms commonly found in toys! You can have fun at this exhibit during DHDC's normal business hours.

Rock of Ages

Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum opens its newest exhibit on February 27th. This cool exhibit features over 200 rocks, minerals, and gems highlighting the dynamic and intense geologic history of this region and beyond. Come be dazzled by the richness of their color, texture, shape, and intricate patterns.
