“Mom, the book is stuck in this damn system, and I don’t know when it will be unstuck…” I could see his furrowed brow and hear the tension in his body, even though I was just looking at his text message.

I took a deep breath and sent back a reply I knew would elicit a forehead slap in the room across the hall: “At the perfect time.”

SLAP! I was right.

In January, we launched You Can’t Make This St*ry Up! What If It’s All Happening For Us? and proved to ourselves AGAIN that what we may have called “Coincidence” if it happened once or twice must be called “Conspiracy” when it happens all the time... without fail.

Less than three months later, we were ready to launch A Religion of Story, a book that ends with Aaron’s organic conclusion that it really is all happening FOR us, not TO us; and it was stuck in a system we had no control over?

You can't make that up, right?

The truth is, it’s much easier to look back at a story and see the divine conspiracy of the delays and detours than it is to TRUST when we’re in the middle of them.

And yet, there’s a whole lot of FREEDOM in knowing and living as though it is not all up to us.

Maybe the world wasn’t ready for it.

Maybe WE weren’t ready for what’s on the other side of it.

Maybe we were being saved from a long-term relationship
with this terrible system/service before it impacted
our new publishing company.

Maybe we needed the experience of an inhumane system/service to get clearer on why we are starting the publishing house and how we can create the exact
opposite experience for our clients.

Maybe it’s part of some bigger plan for the world to be Saved By Story, and there’ are just a few more chess pieces that need to be played before it makes sense.

And so, we wait.

And breathe.

And let the tears fall and the frustration roll.

And do the work that’s before us.

Until it all unlocks.
