PIKE Continues Dance Marathon Fundraising
| | |
This year, Pike will again be participating in one of the largest, fully student-run philanthropies in the country: Northwestern University’s Dance Marathon! Last year’s Dance Marathon raised over $1.2 million for its beneficiaries. Come this March, many Kappa sisters will be dancing for 30 straight hours with hundreds of other students to raise money with Dance Marathon. We are so excited to be a part of such a huge event, specifically on its 40th anniversary. This is especially true because of the amazing primary beneficiary this year, Team Joseph.
Team Joseph, founded around the fight of a young child with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, funds cutting edge research to find a treatment or cure for Duchenne. Duchenne is the most common degenerative genetic muscle disease, affecting 1 boy out of every 3,500. It is a fatal disease, and the life expectancy for those afflicted is in the early 20s. There has never been a treatment or cure, but scientists are closer than they've ever been; there’s real hope. There is potential for this to be the last generation to die of Duchenne or the first to survive. Dance Marathon hopes to make the latter become a reality.
We are already hard at work to raise this money, but we can't do it alone; I am hoping that you will consider supporting my efforts. We are once again paired with the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Last year with the ladies of Kappa, we raised almost $70,000. We are so excited to see how much farther our efforts can go this year. Pike is also proud of have brothers serving on the majority of the committees working for Dance Marathon.

This year we are trying to have alumni contribute to our Dance Marathon efforts. We are very proud that Pike has been amongst the top two DM fundraising fraternities the past five years, and are looking to alumni to help us reach that number one spot. We are sincerely grateful for any donation you make toward this cause. A contribution may be given in a check made payable to Northwestern University ("PIKE" in the memo) and sent to the address below. Or simply go here and donate to our account directly. Dance Marathon begins on March 7th so make sure you donate as soon as possible.
Finally, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact our Dance Marathon chair - Demetrios Elias. If you'd like to learn more about Dance Marathon, I urge you to go to the DM website and the Team Joseph website.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration!

In Memory of John Jones
It is with great sadness to hear that one of Gamma Rho's greatest members has passed away and will join his brothers in Chapter Eternal. John Jones ('47) was a lifelong supporter of Gamma Rho as well as the Fraternity as a whole serving in countless leadership roles over the years. He served as Chairman of the Glenview State Bank and Cummins Allison and was very involved with the village of Glenview and numerous charitable organizations. A fantastic memorial page highlighting John and his family can be found here. Our deepest condolences go out to John's family and his fellow PIKE brothers that knew him well. A memorial fund and annual John E. Jones Lifetime Excellence Award is currently being created in his honor with help from the Alumni Association, Garnet & Gold Scholarship Fund, and the active Chapter. |
