Gamma Rho Concert Raises $6,700 for Mental Health Charity

| Miami-based DJ, Landis, performs at the PIKE charity concert |
|
On Saturday October 20th, PIKE Gamma Rho hosted our inaugural charity concert benefiting the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), a nationwide grassroots advocacy group. The event raised $6,700 for the mental health organization which is dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI uses our gifts and contributions to educate, advocate, listen, and lead. Mental illness is a prominent issue on this campus and especially for our Chapter; therefore, it was an easy choice for the men to partner with this organization. This was the largest amount of money raised for charity for a PIKE hosted event in the Chapter's history. Brothers helped sell advance tickets to the event in two weeks beforehand and sold nearly $1,000 worth of tickets at the door. The event was held at a local concert venue, Evanston Rocks, and was headlined by Miami-based DJ, Landis. The opener for Landis was Alex Manrique, a 2018 Gamma Rho initiate. Evanston Rocks was very accommodating and provided us with all of the tools to make this event a success on top of significant in-kind contributions. The concert served as a very effective recruitment and social event for all attendees as well. Given that this was such a well-attended and beneficial event, the Chapter has already started brainstorming future concerts.

Gamma Rho Wins Pi Kappa Alpha House of Quarter
|
| | The Pi Kappa Alpha House at 2313 Sheridan Road |
|
Gamma Rho has won the prestigious House of the Quarter award from Pi Kappa Alpha Headquarters for Fall 2018. This is Gamma Rho's second win after previously winning House of the Quarter and going on to win House of the Year in 2015.
The award was earned for major improvements including: replacement of the basement flooring, new hardwood floors in the hallways, and a Sonos speaker system throughout the house. The chapter continues to take advantage of the conference room with new Tempur-Pedic office chairs and the first floor living room for ping pong, watching sports, and poker games. The housing committee performs weekly checks to ensure the house remains clean and in a good state of repair. | | |
Chapter Eternal - Alessio Manti |
| Last month, we lost brother Alessio Manti (’09) to suicide. His was a life of many successes that will serve as a legacy our Chapter and brotherhood will never forget.
Alessio was born in Rome and moved to America when he was six. He attended Choate boarding school and graduated from Northwestern with a degree in Learning & Organizational Change. Alessio served as Gamma Rho's Alumni Relations Chair and also ran for student body president. He then attended the Natural Gourmet Institute in NYC and had started graduate school in the Netherlands this year.
The world will be a quieter place without his booming voice and unmistakable laugh. Alessio had a unique ability to make an impression on everyone he met and turn them into his friend. If Alessio dreamed something up, he had a drive that allowed him to simply will it into existence, including his legendary college business venture, the Deuce Caboose. Those who knew him are all better for it and he will be dearly missed. His heart was bigger than life--he felt passion and pain in ways that others could never understand. He left a legacy of love and life and we must take the light that he brought into the world and spread it. He touched so many souls and we hope he touched yours. Rest in peace brother.
Mental health challenges affect every family in one way or the other at some point. The PIKE brotherhood is no different. As we come together to find ways to strengthen the support net around one another in times of crisis, please know that you are not alone if you struggle. Reach out. We are here for one another in good times as well as tough times.

Gamma Rho Scholarship Endowment Continues to Grow
The Gamma Rho Endowment Fund which is used for student scholarship and expenses for Pike University is now in its second year. The fund is managed by a highly qualified team at the PIKE Foundation. The fund, which exclusively benefits Gamma Rho, is comprised of two accounts, the PIKE University Fund which has a balance of $100,000 and the John Jones Memorial Fund which has a balance of $38,000. The PIKE U fund is used to offset the expenses of sending Gamma Rho undergraduates to three unique PIKE U events each year including the summer conference. Fees for registration, travel, lodging, and meals can exceed $10,000 annually for the chapter. The Alumni Association has set out with a goal to achieve a balance of $250k in the PIKE U fund in order to fully cover these costs as the annual dividend is typically 4%.
