John E. Jones Lifetime Excellence Award Ceremony |
|
|
Dinner & Ceremony Gamma Rho alumni and actives celebrated Chris Rones's ('46) lifelong achievements at the chapter house on Tuesday April 8th with the inaugural John E. Jones Lifetime Excellence Award dinner and ceremony. The chapter and alumni association were proud to present the award to Chris who has given an incredible amount to Gamma Rho over the last 65+ years since his initiation.
Mr. Chris Rones graduated from Northwestern University in 1947. He is a proud member of Gamma Rho and fraternity brother contemporary of John Jones. Mr. Rones has many vivid memories of the good days at the old fraternity house at 566 Lincoln Street. Mr. Rones began the alumni First Friday Lunch Club, consisting of his Gamma Rho brothers living in the Chicago area. Then in the 1990's, some of the younger alumni joined the Lunch Club, followed by inviting the active chapter members. So Mr. Rones is responsible for connecting all the classes of Gamma Rho, keeping our history thriving.

PIKE Raise Over $88,000 for Dance Marathon
| | |
This year, Pike once again shattered previous philanthropy totals by raising over $88,000 along with the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma. The 40th anniversary Dance Marathon was certainly one for the ages as the entire student body raised almost $1.4 million for Team Joseph and the Evanston Community Foundation.
Team Joseph, founded around the fight of a young child with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, funds cutting edge research to find a treatment or cure for Duchenne. Duchenne is the most common degenerative genetic muscle disease, affecting 1 boy out of every 3,500. It is a fatal disease, and the life expectancy for those afflicted is in the early 20s. There has never been a treatment or cure, but scientists are closer than they've ever been; there’s real hope. There is potential for this to be the last generation to die of Duchenne or the first to survive. Dance Marathon hopes to make the latter become a reality.
