The Gamma Rho Founder's Day 2019 Celebration at Gallery 1028 was a wonderful experience, with 15+ alums from several eras in attendance. The chapter was in full force, along with their dates, and included food, drinks, and music. Outgoing President, Marc Otero, made a brief speech to introduce the guests for the night, followed by remarks from Brother Monastero.
One active brother commented, "It's incredible to see so many alumni come back and reconnect with each other and the brothers. It's a really special bond, and I didn't appreciate how long that bond lasts."
Thank you to all the alums that made it out! We will continue to plan Founder's Day for ~March 1 each year.
RECAP: Northwestern Dance Marathon |
|
Hello from Pike Senior, Oliver Hodgetts,
I wanted to follow up with you all to let you know that we made it!! The Pike-Kappa team raised $70,000 as a team and helped NU Dance Marathon raise over $1.1 million overall for Communities In Schools of Chicago! We are thrilled to have helped such a wonderful cause and children in our own backyard.
It was an emotional and happy ending to a truly incredible four year experience for me and the entire team. I want to especially thank the other 120-Hour Club members of Pike: Garrett Matsuda, Theodore Baker, Marco Alvarez, and Jay Hunter... It's been a wild ride.
Thanks to all our alums that donated and supported the team along the way - we could not have done it without you!
phi phi,
Oliver Hodgetts, NU 2019 |

Volunteer Requested! - Events Chair
The Alumni Association is looking to bring on an additional volunteer(s) to help with planning regular events for the members of the Alumni Association. We regularly plan 2 events per year - Founder's Day in late Winter, and Homecoming in the Fall, with the goal of hosting 1 event per academic quarter (3 per year).
This role would involve coming up with event ideas each quarter, identifying venues, collecting quotes, and organizing basic logistics between the chapter and the alumni. The time commitment is relatively low, about ~1-2 hours per month, but crucial to the success of the organization.
If you are interested, please reach out to Jacob Kerr at jacob.ryan.kerr@gmail.com or (908) 872-7287
Gamma Rho Elects Executive Board |
|
Gamma Rho recently completed elections for its next Executive Board for 2019-2020. The five elected officers will appoint the remaining officer and chair positions, and are already going through a thorough transition process.
Outgoing President, Marc Otero, is please to hand over the reigns:
"I am extremely proud of the Gamma Rho Executive Board for 2018-19. We accomplished a lot, including the largest philanthropy event in recent Gamma Rho history, as well as receiving House of the Year last quarter. Our GPA is as high as it has ever been, and our brothers are active in leadership roles all across campus. We have a strong, motivated pledge class and a new executive board ready to step up. It’s been an honor to serve as president and I’m excited for the direction of this chapter under the leadership of Hugh Mallen."
| |
Hugh Mallen will fill the role of the Gamma Rho chapter’s next President. Majoring in Journalism and minoring in Legal Studies, Hugh is also the founder of the F.U.N. club and serves as a promoter for Spring Slam. Putting his studies to practice, Hugh is a correspondent for NU Sports. As President, Hugh aims to further unify the chapter and build off the success of its previous executive teams.

|
Christian Braun, the next Internal Vice President, majors in Manufacturing and Design Engineering and Engineering Design Innovation. At NU, he plays on the Club Rugby team and is a member of The Studio (an industrial design club). Christian is passionate about revamping Pike’s brotherhood events to help promote bonding outside of rush and pledging.

|
Jack Hoesterey will become the next Membership Vice President of Pi Kappa Alpha Gamma Rho chapter. Majoring in Economics, Jack serves as the co-treasurer for Club Golf. He’s involved with campusCatalyst and BrewBike and is the former Vice President of Health and Safety within the chapter. In his free time, Jack enjoys skiing. He hopes to build on the leadership development within Pike's new member education and committee system.

|
Drew Miles is the new External Vice President. He is a transfer student studying Learning and Organizational Change. He plays on the Club Golf team at Northwestern and is a member of the Real Estate Club. Drew looks forward to organizing fun philanthropy events and putting on another successful concert to raise money.

|
Ben Mnushkin will serve as the next Vice President of Finance, hoping to make spending more efficient. Studying Economics and Political Science, Ben currently interns at Morgan Stanley in wealth management. At Northwestern, he plays intramural sports and has passions for policy debate, volleyball, and playing NBA 2K.

Gamma Rho Scholarship Endowment Continues to Grow
The Gamma Rho Endowment Fund which is used for student scholarship and expenses for Pike University is now in its second year. The fund is managed by a highly qualified team at the PIKE Foundation. The fund, which exclusively benefits Gamma Rho, is comprised of two accounts, the PIKE University Fund which has a balance of $100,000 and the John Jones Memorial Fund which has a balance of $38,000. The PIKE U fund is used to offset the expenses of sending Gamma Rho undergraduates to three unique PIKE U events each year including the summer conference. Fees for registration, travel, lodging, and meals can exceed $10,000 annually for the chapter. The Alumni Association has set out with a goal to achieve a balance of $250k in the PIKE U fund in order to fully cover these costs as the annual dividend is typically 4%.
