Today I lay my father to rest along with my Sister, Brother, mom and my children. We didn't have a show for Unleash Your Audacious Confidence on Monday to be able to share the encore with you, but instead I want to pay tribute to my father.
Writing this, I am leaning into gratitue for the life my father lived and for the experiences I had being his daughter. It was not always easy and he and I had some real battles but the struggle of wills between us made me infinitely better.
Dr. Francis Edward Davis 'Bing' to those who knew him, was a pioneer, a man who had an opportunity in the mid 70's to move his entire family, my mom and us 3 kids, across to the other side of the world to Australia to study for his Doctorate. It was an experiment set up for him to fail because he was the first West Indian ever given this particular scholarship and opportunity to study in Australia. Before him they only invited those from England and Asia. The odds were stacked against him as those opposed to his grant were resisting having him there all the way. His success in the program paved the way for others to be invited from the West Indies to study in Australia and we build a thriving community of long life friends ever since that owe the courage of my father for stepping out and being the test pilot.
He was generous to a fault, if someone needed soomething, he would get it for them even if it meant he didn't have.
He was a man of many faults as well, but we are all human and each one of us have varying degrees of human frailties, but the measure of a man should never be judged by his faults but by the impact he made and the legacy he left behind. I am a part of that legacy and so are my children.
I believe I will see him again and so the sorry will only last for a moment because there will be joy when we meet again. Love you daddy.
