May 2021 Dear Alumni:
We are on the home stretch of our spring semester with much going on right now as well as in the months ahead. Let me share with you current happenings as well as future opportunities for either yourself or someone you know of solid character.
Classes currently in session are Aquatics (serving on deployment this week at a Samaritan’s Purse rebuild,) EMT (doing clinical rotations) Campus Support Team, Flight, and our Missions unit. I wanted to briefly highlight the Missions’ team who spent a week in Pennsylvania getting training with Ethos 360 (formerly New Tribes Mission) and are now are serving for the better part of two weeks in Mexico. Please be in prayer for them as they wind down their trip and finish off the semester on campus. We appreciate the leadership of each of our officers – and in this case Capt. Hawley as he leads them in this venture.
There are several opportunities in particular this summer that I’m asking our alumni to consider or if possible to pass on to someone else. The first is coming up June 19th to the 29th. I’m looking for guys to assist me with Logistics and setup for an outdoor sporting festival in the Arlington, Texas area (Ducks Unlimited show.) The organizers will make a substantial donation to ALERT if we are able to supply the manpower to assist with setup. Your housing and meals are included in this volunteer opportunity as well as some great times cruising around the grounds on ATV’s, hanging signs, setting up booths, installing fencing and the likes. It’s a great way to give back to ALERT without having to dip into your own pockets. I could make arrangements to pick you up at the airport etc. if that was helpful and perhaps offset some of the ticket fee if you are interested. Please call me to discuss further. I’m looking for a team of 6-8 guys. I need men that can work independently and can maintain a good focus and work ethic.
The second opportunity is a two weeks mission’s trip to Columbia, South America to serve with Tradesmen Drywall on a major construction project. Weeks are flexible during the summer and you do not need to be skilled (although helpful) in construction. Most missions’ trips necessitate figuring in not only your travel costs but housing and food costs as well. This trip will only involve airfare (which can be obtained for between $400-500 when I last checked.) Please note this is not an ALERT sponsored trip but I’m guessing we’ll have some ALERT alumni as part of the teams along the way. Again call me for details, dates available etc.
The third opportunity might apply to a brother or friend of yours that is looking for a couple of weeks of outdoor adventure and study in the beautiful Northwood’s of upper Michigan. It’s called Conqueror 101 and will be held July 10th-24th. It’s for guys ages 17 and up. Space at this time is limited to 12 so again call me if interested and you need more info.
Prayer requests:
- As I write this letter Basic Training is on 24 hour hike. Pray for them as they finish not only the hike but these last three weeks of training. Pray for their leadership as well.
- Thank you for your continued prayers on my behalf. They mean a lot to me. God has shown Himself strong on my behalf and I’m very grateful to be able to continue to work with minimal distractions through the rehab times for the angioplasty in January as well as the daily treatments for prostate cancer that will continue into early June.
- Please be praying for both George Pendergast and Dick Jarrell as they too battle prostate cancer. Pray that God will give them wisdom that comes from above as they seek appropriate medical treatment.
Blessings on all of you and may God give you the strength for each day. |
