September 2019 Greetings once again to our Alumni.
This letter is being written as Unit 60 prepares for R-night later in the day. Every unit that enters basic now arrives a couple of days early and as a large group go through studies and messages related to issues that so many of us struggle with. This “Catalyst” training, as it is called, covers such topics as pride, bitterness, past or present moral failures hidden away in one’s “black box,” struggles with authority and our overall relationship with God. We’ve had great feedback from the guys and are grateful for the opportunity to counsel men as they wrestle with these heart issues. Please be in much prayer for the 50 young men that are presently registered for Unit 60. I’m sure many of you can relate to the uncertainties and anxieties associated with entering this training.
As part of the Catalyst training it was interesting to note how one man shared with us yesterday about his own personal “black box” – hidden from all – that is filled with past moral failures and his desire to clear his conscience and escape the ongoing battles he has had with pornography. What a joy it was for him to put his faith in Christ and start out Unit 60 as a child of the King.
After meeting with him yesterday it reminded me of the importance of the upcoming Conquer Series retreat in Waynesburg, PA this Friday through Sunday, September 14-16. We presently have about 16 or so signed up and give praise to God for prompting men to attend and deal with these moral battles. That is a great number and actually more than we were planning on, but I do want to extend a final invitation to any of you who have yet to register, but may indeed need to be a part of the group. Men, don’t continue to deny the need for such if you still find yourself succumbing to the temptations of fulfilling the lust of the flesh. Join us and be a part of a “safe” environment where you can share with other likeminded guys about your struggles and steps to freedom. Call me for details at 903-714-3481. It starts at 7:30p.m. Friday night and we wrap things up by 11:00a.m. Sunday so it is a very manageable time frame.
In other news…
- Our Fire Academy is in full swing with eleven men participating and Capt. Stephen Winchell and Capt. Cliff Patrick leading the class. It’s one of our largest groups in recent years and we’re thankful for each one’s participation.
- Plans for the 2019 reunion continue to unfold. Mark your calendar for the weekend of February 15-17, 2019 and watch our web page and Facebook for details as they continue to develop. We’re hoping for a great turnout to this event.
- For any of you that have young boys a fantastic Father/son camp is also held in Waynesburg, PA October 4-7, 2019. Activities include archery, shooting, zip line and rappelling, hiking fishing and the list goes on. It too is very affordable (how does basically “free” sound) and your son(s) will never forget it. Call me as well for more details.
Have a great week and keep in touch. In Him,
Marv
