Subject: ALERT Alumni | July Update

July 2018

Dear Alumni:

I’m writing this letter one day after returning from a deployment to Weslaco, Texas - a town about as far south as you can go in Texas before crossing the border. Weslaco was hit with 15 inches of rain a couple of weeks ago resulting in over 2,000 homes being flooded. There was little to no coverage on major media networks and thus a languishing turnout of volunteers to assist with mud outs and recovery. We again were grateful to partner with Samaritan’s Purse and their provision of meals, housing and work orders was a real blessing. It was a great opportunity to minister in a town dominated by Catholicism and share the love of Christ and salvation by faith, not by works. There are a lot of hurting people in the town beyond just the flooding with almost every home owner we worked for facing some sort of major illness within the family or other secondary crisis.

The need is great down there and I’d encourage our alumni to consider a missions trip to assist in the recovery. ALERT is likely sending another team the week of July 22 and it would be a real blessing to the community and SP as well as a great time for our present ALERT guys to connect with some of you from the past. If you do intend to go you must register through Samaritan’s Purse, so get online and do it! Housing and all meals (outstanding food) is provided.

Other news and reminders:
  • We are still planning on a retreat in Waynesburg, PA Sept. 14-16 to go through the Conquer Series which deals with answers to those men struggling with pornography addiction or looking for material to help others. Men: it’s imperative that we get answers to this problem that has taken over so many lives. Please prayerfully consider clearing your schedule with your wife (or mom if you’re still hanging at home. =) and join us. The price is affordable and the material life changing. Call me as soon as you get this letter for more details.
  • Our 25th anniversary for ALERT is on the calendar for the weekend of February 15-17. Mark the date and begin to make plans to come. We want to make this a family event in every way so activities and sessions will include all whenever possible. More details to follow in the coming weeks.
  • Employment opportunity: Family-owned cattle ranch near Mobridge, SD. Entry-level opening for fencing. It requires physical fitness, lifting posts, carrying wire, and driving ATVs. There are other seasonal duties like haying, moving the cattle, and more.
