Subject: Mainstream news is just trees. They don't show you the forest. :: MC Newsletter

🔘 Not Recognize the Forest,

Looking at the Individual Trees

If someone cannot distinguish the forest from the trees, it means that he is so involved in looking at the details of something that he cannot get an overview of that certain thing.

Maybe it just sees the single points. But she is unable to connect them together.

It's not because he's convinced that by reading, watching and listening to more news, he may slowly be able to connect the dots.

But no one can understand the shape a beach will have by sitting on that beach and looking at the individual grains of sand. To see how a beach changes, you need to stop looking at the sand. You have to climb a tree and watch how the wind and the sea move and how they will shape it over time.

🔘 See the Overview
(the Forest instead of the Trees)

Unless someone verifies, organizes and really curates the information or news he shares, this has little value since it is disconnected from all other information on the same topic.

There is no context.

It's like having an ingredient, but not the complete recipe, or like having the name of a place to go to, but no map to be able to locate it.

Curation provides context to any information, as well as a value, a specific point of view and a story for it to be interpreted and appreciated. Any information increases in value and usefulness when it is curated and contextualized.

🔘 Why Curation

When I looked carefully at why some people spontaneously curate content, it struck me that most of them don't curate this content in order to save time, appear more authoritative, or attract more customers. So, I asked myself: why do they do it?

Is simple.

They do it because they care about what they treat. Information curators are genuinely interested in what they do and curating is the only reliable means they have to fully learn the resources they discover, to eliminate inappropriate ones and to discover new gems.

They organize resources so that it becomes possible for them to identify and highlight those that are important, unique, among thousands of others.

These people curate content as doing so allows them to achieve better results for themselves and when they share it they can automatically extend these benefits to their customers, contacts and friends as well.
