I thought professionals never took breaks. Amateurs do, but professionals don't. But I was very wrong. The truth is, the pros are the ones who take healthy breaks, not beginners.

Curating content is in many ways more difficult than writing. In fact, for me it is much easier to write a text of 500 words by writing straight away, than to find themes and sources and then link them together in a harmonious and interesting way.

🔘 "Leopard spot" reading
We know from scientific research that the nervous circuit that enables reading in humans does not derive from a genetic setting such as for sight or language. Reading needs an environment in which to develop. Furthermore, reading will adapt to the characteristics of the environment in which it develops, from the different writing systems to the intrinsic characteristics of the medium used. Ziming Liu of San Jose State University has conducted a series of studies that show that the new standard in reading is "skimming" which is jumping here and there with a look in the text to understand what it is about. Many readers today follow an F-shaped or Z-shaped reading pattern, in which they read the first line and then jump in for familiar words in the rest of the text.
