Speaker: Cameron Wright, Pharmacist and Public Health Project Officer
5:30 PM, Tuesday-March 11th, 2014, American Corner, ULAANBAATAR Main entrance of Natsagdorj Library.
Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease that killed an estimated 1.3 million people globally in 2012 - equivalent to 3,500 lives lost every day. This is despite the fact that it is treatable and curable. For the past year I've been the public health project officer for the Mongolian Anti-Tuberculosis Association (MATA). MATA was the first health-focused NGO in Mongolia and last year celebrated its 20th anniversary. The organization's main focus is on community-based TB treatment.
In this presentation Mr. Wright will give an overview of what TB is, the TB situation in Mongolia and also expand on what 'community-based TB treatment' actually means. He'll also describe some of our research activities, collaborating with researchers from Australia, over the past year and some of the planned activities going forward.
