About the Speaker: Dr. Ann Altman
Ann Altman has been an advisor to Mongolian non-profit groups; the City Council, the City Planning Department and the Civic Participation Department of Ulaanbaatar; various Ministers in the Mongolian government; the Office of the President of Mongolia; the National Union of Democratic Women of Mongolia; the Democratic Party organizations of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar and Zavkhan Province; and other political groups in Mongolia. She has lectured extensively on public participation in democratic processes and urban planning all over Mongolia. She has hosted two groups of Mongolians for training in city government in Connecticut and she was President Elbegdorj's official facilitator during the successful effort to repatriate the great Tyrannosaurus Bataar to Mongolia. She is in Ulaanbaatar, this time, to lecture to and mentor young scientists at MUST and the Institute of Chemistry, in a series of workshops sponsored jointly by MUST and ACMS.
Dr. Altman has a doctorate in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University, and she has published numerous articles in scientific journals, as well as four books for young scientists. She served for three terms as an elected member of the Legislative Council of Hamden, Connecticut, and was the first woman elected to the Chair of the town's Planning and Zoning Commission.
