Dear Friends of Wilbur:
When we do what we call hearing, we actually are touched by a vibration, be it the buzz of a bee or the ratatat of a jack hammer. We feel sound. Hearing is actually feeling.
As this feeling, which we call hearing, gets more intense, it intrudes on our consciousness. We then decide if we want to focus on the feeling or put up a barrier to avoid allowing the vibratory feeling to distract us.
People who live near airports build protective barriers to keep the roar of jet planes out of their consciousness.
In recent history, 78 percent of people living in flight corridors, of airports, suffered from sleep difficulties and increased aggression which interfered with daily activities and overall health.
Sound that we call noise is one of the most common causes of sleep disturbance. When sleep disruption becomes chronic adverse health effects increase significantly.
Exposure to noise is associated with elevations in blood pressure and adverse cardiovascular effects.
Studies have linked noise exposure with increased gastrointestinal changes and anxiety.
The reason for these demographic statistics associating increased sound levels with decreased health is that building a barrier to protect us from sound requires energy. The larger the barrier we build and the more frequently the barrier is utilized, the more energy is expended.
The cost of Barrier Energy is a drain on the immune system.
Sound is measured in decibels. Here are some common decibel levels: Painful
- 150 dBP = fireworks at 3 feet (impulse noise)
- 140 dBP = firearms (impulse noise)
- 140 dBA = jet engine
- 130 dBA = jackhammer
- 120 dBA = jet plane takeoff, siren
Extremely Loud
- 110 dBA = maximum output of some MP3 players, model airplane, chain saw
- 106 dBA = gas lawn mower, snowblower
- 100 dBA = hand drill, pneumatic drill
- 90 dBA = subway, passing motorcycle
Very Loud
- 80–90 dBA = blow-dryer, kitchen blender, food processor
- 70 dB = busy traffic, vacuum cleaner, alarm clock
Moderate
- 60 dBA = typical conversation, dishwasher, clothes dryer
- 50 dBA = moderate rainfall
- 40 dBA = quiet room
Faint (safe for 24 hours or more)- 30 dB = whisper, quiet library
The average decibel level at Wilbur Hot Springs has been measured, by Dames and Moore Environmental Firm, as being below the decibel level of the average library.
Sometimes I can feel the quiet at Wilbur. It is a sensation that is contributed to by the absence of sound. I can sense that I am not building Energy Barriers to minimize the intrusion of sound.
This absence of vibratory sounds, that we call noise, allows me to maximize the use of my energy in my immune system. |

Next time you are at Wilbur let yourself feel, and experience, the absence of noise. Feel it during the day and at night. Recharge your immune system.
Wilbur provides prescription grade nature (RxN) and prescription grade quiet (RxQ).
Say hello the next time you are at Wilbur. We are the tall couple with the smiling eyes and laughing hearts.
Wishing you excellent health and ample RxQ With affection for each of you,
Richard and Jolee, Caretakers, Wilbur Hot Springs 1972-present
