Tariffs Today:

Where We Go From Here

CUI is in the connective tissue business, knowing that knowledge and best-practice sharing across the urban system will accelerate the policy and investment innovations necessitated by these economic circumstances.

As economic uncertainty reaches a new normal, CUI is working with partners across the country to track the impacts of newly imposed tariffs (and counter tariffs), and amplify actions being taken to mitigate negative impacts affecting Main Streets – the economic, social and cultural life-blood of every community.

Amplifying Action

City Watchers Are Back

As we did during COVID, CUI will be leveraging our network of "City Watchers" to amplify actions being taken across Canada to mitigate negative impacts.

Across the country, governments, businesses and other stakeholders will be implementing actions aimed to support economic and social resilience. CUI will be collecting these interventions and communicating them to engaged city builders so that we can learn from and inspire one another in a time of great need for collaboration.

Main Street Action Network

CUI regularly convenes a collective of over 200 organizations that will continue to mobilize and leverage each other’s voices, research, projects and networks to generate action in support of our main streets.
