Subject: SAfER, and Other Updates

   THE BUSINESS of GOVERNANCE

   Newsletter No 71 | September 2023

Hello Friend,

It’s another two weeks since I last wrote to you. A lot has happened since then, and as usual, I want to provide you with updates and share some of our plans for the future with you. But first things first. How are you? Hope you are doing your best to cope with the challenging times.

We have extended our Omituntun mass transit service to some intracity routes within the five geopolitical zones that are not enjoying it already. We are happy with the feedback we are getting regarding this service. And we plan to do even more as resources permit.

On Wednesday last week, we flagged off the distribution of the Food Relief Package as part of the SAfER programme in Oyo State. As promised, we will get all your feedback and apply them as we continue phased distribution to 200,000 vulnerable households.

One immediate feedback we have received concerns the packaging. The PDP logo on the bags gives the package a partisan look. Also, the word palliative was used on the bags. I have always stated that here in Oyo State, we are taking sustainable actions. This is why we have sourced the food items in the relief packages within the geopolitical zone where the package will be distributed. Therefore, I have directed that once these bags are exhausted, new packaging should be used.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you notice that the package is not going to the intended or targeted persons. I promise we will always listen and use your feedback to improve the delivery of the programme.

A few days ago, we flagged off the stakeholder meetings that usually precede our budget preparation and presentation. I urge all stakeholders to be part of the meetings in their zones and let us know what they really want to be included in our 2024 Budget for Economic Recovery. This valuable feedback will help us invest in targeted and impactful projects to the benefit of our people.

Let me again appeal to our people in Olodo. We understand your pain and the distress you are going through, and we are determined to bring it to an end. We are constantly communicating with the contractor to ensure timely delivery of that project. But we also want to deliver a durable project. So, while we are in a hurry to see it completed, we will not be doing this to the detriment of safety and compliance requirements. We already changed the bridge's design to a two-span bridge. So, please be patient with us. Joy cometh in the morning.

As we complete the first quarter of Omituntun 2.0, we are happy to have met some of our goals. We will be commissioning the 34.85 km Oyo-Iseyin Road and inaugurating the LAUTECH Iseyin Campus, which hosts the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources. We are grateful to everyone who did their best to ensure that these projects are delivered.

Before I go, let me mention that we have submitted the names of the last two members of the Oyo State Executive Council (ExCo) to the Oyo State House of Assembly. I received many queries regarding the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Both nominees have been cleared and will be sworn in next Wednesday so they can resume work.

Finally, the Oyo State Government is partnering with the organisers of the Ibadan Tech Expo to host a tech event in Ibadan this Saturday. We would want anyone who wants to attend to be there. So, the organisers have provided this link to us for free registrations. Of course, the number of free tickets is limited and will be awarded on a first-come, first-to-be-served basis. Follow this link to register if you are in Ibadan.

Talk to you again soon.
