   THE BUSINESS of GOVERNANCE

   Newsletter No 61|April 2023

Hello Friend,

How are you today? The last two weeks flew by so fast, didn't they? I hope things have been going well with you. On my part, I have continued working and making all the necessary arrangements to ensure that for Omituntun 2.0, we hit the ground running. As you well know, our inauguration is just about 40 days away.

I promised to embark on a "Thank You Tour" across the state. I still remember that promise. I should be doing that in the next few weeks. Also, with the elections over, I have returned to books and reading. And so, I am kicking off reading this year with this thought-provoking book titled "The Plot to Save South Africa: The Week Mandela Averted Civil War and Forged a New Nation" by Justice Malala.

The book, although non-fiction, is written in narrative prose style, making you feel like you were part of the events. I decided to read this book because I have always admired Nelson Mandela. Even though he has passed away, we remember him for what he did for South Africa and the entire African continent. And this book is dedicated to a particular week in which he exhibited selfless leadership.

One thing I have noted from this reading is how great leaders often choose a path

less trod because of their convictions. If Nelson Mandela had not made the decisions he made at the time he made them, who knows what would have become of South Africa today? Mandela strongly believed that the position he and other party members occupied was "for a particular purpose". Mandela did what he was convinced he needed to do to avert a Civil War in South Africa, and today, history is kind to him.

I will surely share the lessons I draw from reading this book as I believe Nigerian leaders, myself included, have much to learn from this great man. Please get a copy of the book in print or electronic format and read along with me.

Talk to you again soon.
