| | Day 5: An Uncomfortable Truth
It has been really terrific to have you with us in this 5-day challenge — and now we’re on Day 5 we have a few important thoughts to share with you before we go.
We’ve taken you through a process that has involved dreaming about what you want, getting clear on the outcomes of that dream coming true, imagining potential obstacles and putting a mental plan in place for what you’ll do to overcome them.
Something that may get in the way for you is the very common misconception that when you imagine yourself achieving something in the future, you envisage your ‘best self’ turning up and getting things done. The person ticking off this to-do list in your mind definitely has her act together. She’s focused, driven, healthy, determined, courageous … and it’s glorious, isn’t it?
In reality, the person turning up in four months to complete these goals is in face, just us. The way we are now — just four months older. |
| | We need to work with this! Because the imperfect versions of ourselves, struggling with real life challenges and variable motivation is the old version of ourselves that we have to count on to deliver these results. Either she’ll have got stuck in and accomplished things, or she’ll have let this go and will be frustrated with herself.
So, have some empathy for your future self. To treat her with kindness and compassion, perhaps it would be a good idea to get on with this plan.
About this time last year, we had some clarity calls with people who felt stuck in some area of their lives. Some of them went on to work with us in our highest level coaching program. We know that others will have taken steps to move forward on their own, which is brilliant. Others will have struggled to do that, and may find themselves, a year on, back where they started. It’s all in the follow through.
If you fast forward in your mind to January, it can help to ask what the cost will be if you don’t implement your goals in this coming four months. Get as detailed as you can about this cost, by asking not just what you’ll miss if you don’t achieve this, but what your ‘secondary losses’ will be? These are the extra things and next steps you stand to GAIN if you stick with your plans.
It can be uncomfortable to put yourself into the future and feel the disappointment and frustration of not achieving something. The great thing is, the choice to move away from that discomfort and into a place of personal reward is entirely within your grasp!
Join us today at 1pm for our Epic Masterclass to end this challenge. We’ll have some final ideas and strategies to share with you, and we’ll also let you know about a couple of ways you can choose to continue working with us if you desire that in the future. |
