Let me give you some more facts about what happened that day when the fire of God descended on Mount Sinai and the Lord’s voice spoke. May I? What I am going to share with you came out of the writings of the Jewish sages. At Sinai, God gave Israel the opportunity to regain the dependable vision which Adam had forfeited. They saw what they heard and they heard what they saw. I want to expound upon this for a minute.
Israel’s senses at Sinai were so heightened that they became aware of the one overwhelming truth: the Word of the Living God, which was much more tangible, more real than the sights of their eyes. Transitory stimuli is essentially meaningless; it lost all significance for them. They saw the truth and the eternity of the Word of God. Listen to this, they SAW. They did not just hear, they saw with their eyes Truth and the eternity of the Word of God.
My dear brothers and sisters, not even you have seen that. Furthermore, that which they saw with their eyes was relatively vague and unimpressive. Now, He’s not talking about the truth. He is talking about everything else on the temporal plane, which suddenly became vague and unimpressive compared to the Truth, the Living Word. They did not see it like you read the Bible—that is not what this is saying. They saw it with their whole being.
From within they saw the Truth. They saw it as you would see it if you were standing in heaven. The eyes were suspect, for they could easily be deceived, just as Adam’s eyes had been clouded by deception. Consequently, visual data made only a faint impression on them, like a barely heard whisper.
Another sage writes this. In the occasion of the “Matan Torah,” the giving of the Torah, the children of Israel not only heard Hashem—the Lord’s voice, but actually saw the sound waves as they emerged from Hashem, coming forth from His mouth. They visualized them as a fiery substance. Each commandment that left Hashem’s mouth traveled around the entire camp like a fire. Then to each Jew individually, asking, “Do you accept upon yourself this commandment with all the “Halakha”—or the Jewish Law— pertaining to it?” Every Jew answered, “Yes.”
After each commandment, finally the fiery substance which they saw engraved itself on the tablets of their heart, then rose up and engraved it on the stone tablets. God’s Word is active, cutting asunder between soul and spirit. His Word is living! His Word does not contain truth; His Word is Truth! It is the very essence of what is truly living! This is life in the Holy of Holies. This is life when the Lord says, “Hallowed be Thy Name.”
We come to church and we look for the warm fuzzies. Oh, if we only knew there is something so much greater, so far beyond the warm fuzzies! There is a life lived in the essence of Truth. The very life of Truth, the very depth of the Holy of Holies of the living God where our realities our opened up to your heart, in your understanding! So far beyond the fuzzies.
I could give you scriptures that would confirm what the sages wrote. But another sage talks about when the Word came out of the mouth of God, it traveled around the whole world and for a moment—for a split second in time--every being on earth was awakened to the reality of God. He said that kings howled at the terror of the Lord.
Why would God do such a thing? He was announcing His Lordship. He was announcing His Godhood. He was announcing His sovereignty! He was announcing that He was the Way, the Truth and the Life! He was announcing that there was freedom from Egypt and that life is lived in the holy satisfaction of God in the ever-living Kingdom. And only He can open the heart of man. So He did it to each of His own, according to His own desire to see truth. Then as always, even as today, to the heart that is not fully prepared for the truth, it again begins to close up to the light.
Please turn with me to 2 Chronicles 6.
Then Solomon said, “The LORD has said that He would dwell in the thick cloud. I have built You a lofty house, a place for You to dwell forever.” 2 Chronicles 6: 1-2 AMP
Solomon said in verse 1, “The Lord has said that He would dwell in the thick darkness.” Then He says to the Lord, “I have built you a house in which the dark holy of holies seems a fitting abode for you to dwell forever.” But today there is a greater Kingdom, a greater call and the Spirit of the Lord is building a temple in the heart of every willing believer. Not all will know his true occupancy. You may be sealed with the promise of the Holy Spirit. Your spirit may be once again awakened to the presence and the life of God, but your soul remains in slumber if you will it. And it is there in your soul that God wants to build your temple; that the Spirit of the Lord wants to lay stone upon stone. He wants to put the mortar in between the stones to secure for Himself a place for the Lord Jesus Christ. When the temple is built, He wants to establish the Holy of Holies in the deep place of you.
There is the dark place, deep in your inner man, and the Son will say that you desire truth—where? In the inward parts! That’s where God wants to build His temple. That is where the Holy of Holies has to be established—in the dark place, the hidden recesses, where the soul is established in your will. He wants to build Himself the Holy of Holies so that the cry of our heart becomes a place for Him to dwell. Come Lord Jesus and take up your throne!
To be continued…
