“How To Walk With God”
Session Three
Part D

God wants to be our teacher. He wants to make these scriptures life to us. I love this scripture – Deuteronomy 32:46-47 “He said to them, Set your [minds and] hearts on all the words which I command you this day, that you may command them to your children, that they may be watchful to do all the words of this law. For it is not an empty and worthless trifle for you…”
You do not know that it is strengthening you, but it is. You may not think the Word is doing anything for you and you may think you do not understand what you read, but if you are reading it, it is cleansing you of the things that keep you from Jesus. It is cleansing you of the things of the world and healing your soul. The Word is healing and repairing your soul to submit to your spirit. It heals and strengthens your spirit man. It is a great way to learn that it is not about you; it is about God and Jesus in everything and in every way.
Now, can we be honest with each other? If you do not have a Divine love for the Word of God deep in your heart, you will wonder what its value is and, at times, it may even seem empty to you. To you, it may almost seem like a trifle. (What value is it anyway? What does it have to do with my life today?) Am I correct? And yet here Deuteronomy states, For it is not an empty and worthless trifle for you. It is your very life. What is your life? The Word. Is it bread? No, it is the Word. Is it having a reputation? No, it is the Word. Is it having a house to live in or Divine health? No, it is the Word. We have it all wrong. The Word is your life. It must become your life and the Word is there for us to search it out. It will answer every question you have. All you have to do is search it out—because it is not an empty trifle for you.
When the angel of the Lord spoke to me about these days twenty years ago, he said that these days were going to be treacherous days. These are not words spoken by a human being who does not like to suffer. The word ‘treacherous’ was used by an angelic ambassador and I can promise you that they only say what the Father tells them they can say and he specifically used the word treacherous. When we are in a treacherous time (when the days become treacherous)—do you think you are going to know how to maneuver your way through that easily? I can promise you, you will not. It is going to be different than anything any American has ever known before.
How many of you were [here] in NOLA through Katrina? Did you ever think during that time—I wonder what the Word says about this and how to survive something like this? Did you ever think that way? It is not an empty trifle—it is your life and when Katrina hit, all the answers you needed to make it through in strength were right here in His Word. The answers to direct your path, to direct your feet, to be made into the image of God through great hardships—it is all right here and you did not even think about it. We have got to come to a place, as a Christian, where we realize that God put one of the most vital tools of the Kingdom in our hands to guide us.
Now, let me tell you something else coming straight from the Throne of God. He spoke this to me in a word of knowledge—I saw in a vision that the Kingdom of God is going to be revealed in such a way as never before in the history of man—an unprecedented way. And if the Word is not your life, you will not know it, understand it, recognize it, or know how to walk in it, when it comes. He won’t be able to prepare you for its arrival so that you will be strong enough to walk in it.
When the earth was filled with Baptist theology that is what the world was ready for at that season. Nothing against the Baptists—please understand this—but it is a superficial understanding of the Word and that is what the world was ready for. In the days ahead, what you are going to need— due to the many problems and perplexities and due to the coming of the glorious Kingdom— is a spiritual strength that can only happen through a life saturated by the Word. If you are not spending the time in the Word, asking the Spirit in the Lord to make the Word ‘life real’ to you—to impart it into your heart, spirit, soul, and mind, when the difficulties and perplexities come, you will not be strong enough to endure them. Furthermore, when the Kingdom comes, you will not be strong enough to endure. It takes great spiritual strength to live in the higher truths. Jesus did not walk with the Father the way He did because He was not versed in the Word. He was the Word, but He was also versed in the Word. He had great spiritual stature when He was very young because of His life in the Word.
Please hear me with all of your heart. When the world was tugging at Him to walk to the right, He did not, because even at eight years of age He knew more about the Word and the Father than the sages of His time. I asked Him one time: How is it that you were able to walk with the Father without sin? How is it that you were able to walk with Him in the depth that you walked with Him so young? He said to me: Because I knew the principles that I shared in Matthew 5, 6 and 7 and I knew them to the depths of My soul. And because I knew these things about the Father, I was able to walk with Him. And the strength I needed to walk with Him, and not with the world, was in Me.
So here He is at such a young age, walking through His life, and the world is trying to pull Him in one direction, right? Because of His knowledge of the Word, the Father and the Kingdom, He had the strength not to be pulled, but to go the way of God. He never had to ask Himself: Why did I do this? Why did I do that?—because the Word was life to Him. What does the scripture say, again? “It is not an empty and worthless trifle for you—it is your very life and by it you shall live long in the land which you are going over the Jordan to possess.”
The Word does not become life to you overnight. It takes time, prayer, fasting and pleading with God to develop that love and intimacy with the Word. The more you find yourself clinging to the Word, the stronger you will come to walk with God. In the days ahead, due to the problems and the coming release of the Kingdom at a much higher level than we have ever known, you will then be strong enough.
One time, I was in Bend, Oregon ministering. Every day, all day long, I would sit at the foot of the bed and worship the Lord. I would spend time in the Word—all day long in prayer. I did not go anywhere. You know, when you go to Bend, Oregon you just want to go out everywhere and see everything because it is so beautiful—but that is not my way. I go to Niagara Falls to minister and I stay in my room to pray; I am not there to see the Falls. I am not here to see the world—I am here to see God, so this is what I did. If I was not in the pulpit, I was in prayer. Eventually, it was time to get ready to leave. The services were over and it was time to leave for the airport. Here I was, sitting in a chair by the wall talking to God: Thank you for the week You have given me. You have been so wonderful, near and so precious, Lord. It has been so awesome to be in Your presence like this all week long. Thank You so much. He responded: I have so many things that I want to show you, but you are not yet strong enough to bear them. I cried, but it was also a beautiful lesson—that you must have spiritual strength before He can allow you to drink of the higher truths.
Someone once said to me: Teach me, just mentor me—I will learn really fast—six months or a year at most. I said: You cannot do that, it is not possible. They said: Yes it is, I will just try very hard. Their heart was so innocent and zealous. I said—it has taken me X amount of years to get here. You do not get here so quickly. This person was still insistent that they would be able to learn quickly, until I finally said: I am not going to teach you because you cannot bear what you are asking for.
Do you understand what I am saying? Your spirit cannot handle it and neither can your soul. You cannot bear it. It is like giving oatmeal baby cereal to an infant that can only drink milk. It is like giving a baby prime rib. It does not even know how to chew and it has no teeth. Its little system could not digest it even if it could eat it, and the same is true of the Word. It takes time to build your spirit and soul up to endure truth.
Deuteronomy 32:47 For it is not an empty and worthless trifle for you; it is your [very] life. By it you shall live long in the land which you are going over the Jordan to possess.
If you want to walk with Jesus, you have got to be a Word person and I am not talking about naming it and claiming it. You have got to become a Word person who loves the Word. It has to become your life, amen? How wonderful is it to know how the Lord thinks and that He is directing, correcting, calling and remaking you!
In His Amazing Love,
