Gray Whales, Orcas, Humpback + Minke!

Just like the weather, whale watching is heating up in the Salish Sea! So far this month we've seen most of the 11 "Sounder" gray whales that have made their way inland, including CRC-22 Earhart, CRC-53 Little Patch, CRC-56 Stardust, CRC-356 Carson, CRC-383 Cascade, CRC-531 Gretchen, CRC-2246 Azulão, CRC-2249 Hattie, CRC-2356 Stalwart, and CRC-2362 Thidwick,

In addition, there have been robust sightings of Bigg's orcas, including the new calf in the T46B family. The calf (T46B3A) is the first known offspring of 14 year-old T46B3 “Sedna.” In Inuit culture, Sedna is the Mother of the Sea. The T46 family has been spending extended time in the area in March, along with the T99s, T124As, T36Bs, and T49C.

If that weren't enough, we also saw our first humpback whale AND our first minke whale of the season this week. We expect to see more of these species as the weeks progress.

Our tours will focus on gray whales through April 11, after which our main season begins. However, as you can see, we are seeing all of the whales our region has even this early in the season!
