Subject: Showcasing the Pride of Knysna and a Dazzling Golf Day

Sales assistant Patti Grove welcomes the arrival of Knysna’s New Queen Mermaid
at The Deckle Edge's new Queen Street premises.

As 2024 is fast coming to a close,
we’re taking the opportunity in this edition to look back at the achievements of individuals & businesses in the greater Knysna community who have made a positive impact to our environment over the years through our #PavementProud initiative.

Our cover picture features the striking mural created by talented muralist Lance Khoury for The Deckle Edge’s new premises on Queen Street.

Entitled the New Queen Mermaid, the mural was completed in time for the grand re-opening of this iconic art & craft store on November 1st. Along with a newly-planted flowerbed in front of the premises, the mermaid has made a huge impact on the visual appeal of Queen Street which is fast becoming a major creative hub of our town.

The old Knysna railway station has been transformed, thanks to refurbishment work undertaken by Knysna Waterproofing & the arrival of a new tenant - the African Curio Market.

All things bright & beautiful at 10 Queen Street with its newly-painted frontage & colourful flowerbed.

The beautiful seahorse bollards on the Thesen Island Causeway

The Art Cafe´...cheerful & inviting with a striking mural of Queen Victoria.

In Green Street, just off Long Street, a row of tastefully refurbished shops enhances our town by providing stylish spaces for new enterprises.

The area behind the Municipality's Queen Street Offices has been transformed by this striking
'Circles the the Forest' mural by the Knysna Art Society.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - especially here at the Nine on Gray salon.

Another mural by Lance Khoury welcomes visitors to the Waterfront.

Even functional buildings can be enhanced with careful indigenous planting & landscaping, like the frontage of the new Nissan showrooms in Waterfront Drive.

A dazzling golf day

Revive Knysna’s annual golf day at Knysna Golf Club on November 17 was a resounding success.

The weather played ball for the 30 teams who competed for dazzling prizes & were treated to excellent refreshments during & after the competition.

The money raised through entrance fees, the superb raffles & auctions will pay the wages of our permanent team of gardening staff for the months to come – perhaps allowing us to employ a few more.

We are eternally grateful to our loyal & generous sponsors, many of whom ‘set up stall’ around the golf course & clubhouse to give the whole event a festive atmosphere. We also welcomed two cricketing celebrities, Quinton de Kock & Tristan Stubbs, who donated signed shirts for auction, thus boosting our fundraising total by many thousand more Rand.

Now in its third year, the RK Golf Day is the most popular fundraising event in Knysna GC’s calendar. According to Club General Manager Meyer du Toit, it was heavily oversubscribed. So, to avoid disappointment, be sure to enter early for next year’s event

For the record, the results were:

Winners: Eugene & Marina Kok, Sean Tanner & Francois Rousseau, 107 Points

Third: Liselle Walker, Barbara Ribeiro, Julia Read & Eleste Bain, 98 Points
