Subject: Conversation With a Taxi Driver

Dear Friend

This is a story about a taxi trip in Lagos.

A business executive requested an Uber car. As he settled in the car for the trip, he began to work on his laptop responding to emails and following up with employees.

Halfway through the journey, he decided to engage the Uber driver in a conversation.

Business Executive: Aside from driving this car, what else do you do for a living.

Driver: I am a pilot

Business Executive: What did you say (pretending he didn’t hear the first time)

Driver: I work in aviation where I manage flight operations and I have my private Pilot license. I am about to get my commercial license.

At this time, the Business Executive is shocked and at the same time very curious.

Business Executive: Ok. What else do you do?

Driver: I am also interested in tourism. I went to London and I was able to get around with the use of an app. I would like to create something like that for Lagos. But before I create the app, I opened an Instagram account 4 months ago and as at today, I have about 10,000 followers.

Business Executive: Why are you a cab driver?

Driver: I own this car, it is worth ₦3m. I don’t want it sitting idle. I believe it can make money for me too. It will help me raise the money I need for my commercial license.

Business Executive: I am impressed. Here’s my card. Let’s talk.

Shortly after, the business executive reached his destination.

You know your story, and why you do the things you do. This Uber driver is ambitious, works hard and does not care what people think about him. He has a goal and he is working towards it.

I know you have a goal. Are you working towards it?

Shalom
