Don’t you wish you had a magic wand, or a ‘fast forward’ button sometimes? There are situations we don’t want to be in. Things we wish we could undo. Paths we find ourselves on where we feel lost or unsure and question the choices we made that led us there.

There are things we want to fix and times when we desperately wish we weren’t the adults people appear to be looking to for leadership. Because sometimes it’s not easy. It’s not obvious. We don’t have the answers we need or the solutions we’re looking for.
When things are uncertain, what we do have in our favour is our own vulnerability. As scary as that sounds, it’s our vulnerability that makes us strong. It’s our capacity to ask for help and let people into our lives that builds the strength we need to tackle the hard stuff.

Yet we’ve been hearing messages of independence since we were toddlers! “You’re a big girl. You can do it yourself.”

Well … not necessarily. There’s a lot we can handle, but we all have a point beyond which we’ll sink without assistance. Maybe it’s you who’s floundering now, while someone who’s finding life a little easier tosses you a life buoy.

Later on, you’ll be the one on firmer ground, lending your support to a friend who needs it. That’s how it works.

We can all get through bad times and keep looking for better ones, as long as we have people who love us … and we’re prepared to let them in.
All the best
