I write this in the cardiology waiting room, mid-angiogram, three days before Christmas. This test is something that takes several hours, because you have to hang around afterwards to recover.
Have I done my Christmas shopping? No.
Have I done the food shopping? No.
Have I cleaned the house yet? No.
Is any of that as important as spending several hours having some tests done today? No.
Not even Christmas. Not work. Not kids. Not legal stuff or holidays or house auctions …
It’s not until you lose someone to something that might have been prevented ‘had there been time’ for appointments like this that you realise how very little everything else matters in comparison to the one thing without which none of the rest can ever happen. Health.
The bulk of our packed schedules is packed by us. Nobody is standing over us, forcing us to accept invitations, or take high-pressure jobs or enter into the large mortgages or school fees or other extra-curricular activities that can put our finances and diaries under strain. There’s an enormous amount of choice in our lives. We’re not trapped.
“Everything changed the day she realised there is exactly enough time for all the important things in life.” - Brian Andreas This is a topic we were already talking about in our new book, I Don’t Have Time: 15-minute Ways to Shape a Life You Love, and it’s a topic we’re even more passionate about now we’ve seen what happens when you fall into the trap of believing you’re too ‘busy’ to make that time.
The initial response to our book has been FABULOUS!
"I was lucky enough to have a pre-release copy of this book to read. It is BRILLIANT! It is the combination of a good story book plus some practical, non-judgemental ideas for change. This will be my go-to gift for friends this coming year. Thank you, Audrey and Emma."
AND, we’ve just taken delivery of BOXES of books, ready to be sent to you right now! You can read a sample and order a signed copy here.
All the best from us for a beautiful Christmas, and we’re particularly thinking of those who may find this Christmas challenging (like we will).
Much love
