There was once a farmer and he was one of the richest farmers in the area. He was rich because he owned a horse. Everyone thought he was so fortunate.
Nobody else in the farmer's neck of the woods had a horse to call his own.
One day the farmer's horse escaped from the barn and a few hours later, he went into town to see about it.
“Oh, how sad that you lost your horse,” said the town baker.
“Well, maybe good, maybe bad. You never know,” said the farmer.
Wouldn't you know it… the horse came back the next day, and it led 3 wild horses into the farmer's pen. Now the farmer had 4 horses.
The farmer went to town later that day, and the fellow who ran the service station said, “Oh, you’re so lucky. You’re so fortunate. Now you have 4 horses!”
“Well, maybe good, maybe bad. You never know,” said the farmer.
The next day, the farmer's 20-year-old son was trying to break one of the wild broncos, but he got bucked, fell off the horse, and broke his leg.
Later in the day, the farmer went to town. News had already reached the townsfolk.
“Oh, sorry to hear about your son,” said the town barber.
“Well, maybe good, maybe bad. You never know,” said the farmer.
The following day, the Army recruiters came into town to gather up all the young men who were over the age of 18 because the country was going to go to war.
Of course, they couldn’t recruit the farmer's son, because he had a broken leg.
We just never know, and we say . . .
Maybe good. Maybe bad. Never know…
Wishing a Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there.
As always,
Brian
