Subject: The parable of the broken lantern

Let your story shine brighter than ever

The village lay still among the gentle hills, wrapped in the hush of time. Within its heart, the craftsman’s workshop stood as it had for years, its windows aglow with the soft shimmer of lanterns, each one bearing the quiet labor of steady hands.

The light they cast was warm and familiar. A promise against the encroaching dark.

In the early morning hours, an apprentice, eager and restless, went and fetched the craftsman’s finest lantern—its golden glow dancing against the cobbled streets—with the wide-eyed confidence of youth. For, the young man was tasked with collecting the lantern so the craftsman could make some minor repairs.

But in his fervor, the boy’s grip faltered. The lantern slipped and, in the span of a breath, shattered against the stone.

Silence fell upon the boy. Shards lay at his feet, scattered like stars. His heart hammered as he stood motionless, shame swelling in his chest.

The youngster gathered himself and then swept the fragments into the corner, to be hidden beneath dust and neglect. For days, he avoided the craftsman’s gaze as if to undo the ruin by mere absence.

A week or so passed. The villagers felt the absence, the dimming of the lantern’s warmth—real or imagined. The craftsman also sensed it. A hollow space now existed where light once shone.

And so, the master craftsman—knowing full well the weight of silent remorse—sought out the boy. When at last they spoke, the trembling apprentice confessed his folly and braced himself for disappointment.

It never came.

Instead, the craftsman smiled and turned to the broken pieces.

Together, they worked. Master and apprentice poured gold into the cracks and they became like veins of sunlight. They not only restored what was lost, they transformed it.

When at last the lantern was lit anew, it shone with a radiance previously unseen.

The fractures never faded, nor did they ruin its beauty. The cracks now lent the lantern something greater, something more luminous.

And when the village gathered, drawn to this unfamiliar glow, their murmurs were hushed with wonder.

The lantern, once broken, was now reborn.

In its wounds lay its brilliance.
