Psychologist Abraham Maslow developed a famous “hierarchy of needs,” first published in 1943.
I’m not going to break it down. You can go to Wikipedia for that.
On today’s podcast, we talked a little bit about needs as opposed to “neediness.”
Neediness is no good. Choose a different path.
Needs and wants are different, however.
We often see “Maslow’s pyramid” that describes his 8 needs, so-called.
We need nutrition to survive. On the pyramid, the base need is “physiological.” Fueling the body and other associated “needs.”
But most of us also want to experience joy in life. This is pretty much universal, yet entirely different than what we need.
And so it goes. Life ain’t all that simple.
Yet, when you eat authentic pit-roasted Texas barbecue—and when it is delivered right to your front door is even better—you get the best of both worlds.
When you feast on authentic Texas barbecue, one may find that many needs and wants are taken care of.
You may think you want or need joy in your life, but what do you get?
In fact, one could argue that you’ve made it to the top of Maslow’s pyramid…
Consider your full belly, too. Like I mentioned, it’s a physiological need.
Other than shelter and water, a satiated belly is a pretty nice thing to have.
