Storms never last, do they, babe?
Bad times all pass with the winds
–Jessi Colter, "Storms Never Last"
I type to you amidst a major winter storm. There's no snow where I am, but the rain is relentless and is bound to cause all sorts of damage.
On a personal level, nearly every time a spot of rain comes down, my internet connection goes on the fritz. It happened again today. Happened a few times last week, too.
Since most of my day requires a solid connection to the outside world via my computer, I have a cellular "backup" fix if our hardline goes out. Well, the storm knocked that out this morning, as well.
But, as the angelic Jessi Colter sang, "Storms never last…"
That was the first thing I thought about after I complained about my situation for a while.
Storms don't last. They do suck, however.
As for Jessi, she was married to Waylon Jennings for over 30 years until his passing, twenty-three years ago today.
As a solo artist, Waylon released "Storms" on several albums and collections, while in 1981, as a duet, the couple charted as high as 17 on the US Hot Country Songs.
A little Waylon goes a long way on a miserable day.
On a rainy day, consider enriching your life with his final appearance, Never Say Die: The Final Concert Film. Rent or buy from Amazon.
It's a true joy. Plus, Waylon and Jessi duet on "Storms Never Last."
As always,
Brian
